Does anyone know whether the following parts on a 240z should be body colour? Or if not, what colour they should be?

- Under-wing splash guards
- Under engine splash guard
- Door hinges
- Rear hatch hinges
- Bonnet hinges

I would think all body colour except the under engine tray.

My car is very original.

Under wing splash guards (that are welded to the shell) are primered in an off white primer, then the exterior part is covered with a stone chip/waxy under seal that is black.

My under engine splash guard is rust brown but only surface rust. Perhaps it was never painted from factory?

Door hinges look to have body coloured paint on the door attachment, the part attached to the shell almost looks as if it was left bare, maybe the paint the cars with the doors on. I would say they have the wings on when painting.

Rear hatch hinges and Bonnet hinges are painted body colour.

Under wing splash guard should be screwed on.

The plastic rubber? Is screwed on. There is a steel plate with a foam type rubber seal that seals the wing to the steal plate that blocks off the outer bulkhead/door panel to the wing which is welded on the car.

I'm with mr G, that mine were bolted on.

82 is the Mud Guard in question
86 is the Screw that holds them on.

Looking at your thread Dan it does indeed look from the pictures that yours are tack welded on. But they do have the holes in the panel for the screws.

Mr_Tenno,

I believe the list below is correct, based on some historic photographs and my very original late 260Z. Also, I think on metallic cars the clear coat only covered the "exterior" faces of the body, not under the bonnet or inside the hatch.

- Under engine splash guard:
The early type was grey-finished, and the later ones black. Not sure what year they changed over though. I have a new one of these if you want a photograph to determine the exact black, because it seems slightly glossier than the flatter black on the suspension components.

- Door hinges:
Body coloured

- Rear hatch hinges:
Body coloured, including the fixing screws to the car body, although the fixing screws to the hatch side are not painted.

- Bonnet hinges
Body coloured.

Thats it Mike, mine was a 1970 car, screwed on.

It might be the foam that looks like a weld with all the **** that gets collected/dirt, gone hard. I know mine took a knock with a rubber mallet after they had been unbolted.

Mine are definitely tacked on, there are holes in the mudguards but not in the shell. Original primer was on the welds too so is odd! Did they change the shells in 73?
