It's wits end time - any ideas? All the traditional cures have, so far failed. A few weeks ago, my wipers started to squeak. Not just a minor eek every now and again but a full blooded squeeeeEEEEEEAAAAKKKK all the way up and all the way back bloody down again. Tell you, it nearly makes my ears bleed. Since then I have tried:
  1. Clean windscreen with washing up liquid, polish off with newspaper
  2. scrub with green kitchen scourer, rinse, polish
  3. swop front squeaky blade with rear non-squeaky blades which immediately starts to squeak
  4. wash windscreen again (and yes, every time taking particular care to clean the wiper blades)
  5. new Bosch blades
  6. Halfords glass cleaner
  7. Halfords other butch stuff whise name escapes my but it's the stuff you're supposed to completely clean off all the crud before applying RainX or similar
  8. Autoglym shampoo then Autoglym glass polish
  9. Halfords glass cleaner again
AND IT'S STILL BLOODY DOING IT  Help - any suggestions?

this happend to me on a 300zx i had....did all the stuff on your list, and found it was the spline which the wiper arm fits onto needed oiling...try this dude.

The sound does appear to be coming from the windscreen/wiper rather than the spline - but I'm desperate so I'll give anything ago. Do you mean to oil the shaft where it passes through the bodywork (and would 3 in 1 or WD40 be better?) or take off the arms and oil where the arm fits onto the spline?

OK OK it's a dumb question but I bought a Zed 'cos I liked it not because I'm clever :D

(and oi - netpreference - as soon as I've thought of a snappy answer, I'll post it :p:p)

Hi,
Apply some RainX and you won't need to use the wipers very often....makes removal of splattered insects easier too!

my squeaky wiper turned out to be the spindle bearing.squirt some duck oil down into it and see if it cures it.

try rat and mouse poison lol, if your zeds anything like mine it'll have a field mouse living in it, mine can be seen occasionally running across the aux belt or when the engines running seems to move to the inner wing!

Squeaky solved - Col & jimmer were closest. Thanks to their tip, I pointed the wipers away from the windscreen, turned' em on and still got the squeak. Aha, nothing to do with the screen at all. I tried WD40 and teflon spray down the spindle but nowt.

According to Mr F, something was seizing in the mechanism in/near the motor. That "something" got taken apart, greased and reassembled - bingo, no squeak. Phew, what a relief. Thanks Mike. And the wipers now sweep noticeably faster than before which underlines it was something in the mechanism slowly seizing over time.

So if you get a nasty squeak, lift the wipers off the screen and test - that'll show if it's screen or mechanism related. Obvious now, I know....
