Best stock exhaust manifold?

I've just rebuilt the head on my late 260z. When I came to fit the exhaust manifold one of the holes in the flange to the pipe was broken so I thought I'd look at the exhaust from my early spares car.

What a nightmare of design that is! It has great big lugs of casting set into the ports. This must restrict the flow terribly. I guess they are something to do with the horrid emmission control manifolds that reburnt gasses?

Is there a BEST stock exhaust manifold like there is with inlet manifolds?
How did the 260s get a bhp figure when clearly design alterations along the way must have made significant change? Are late 260s more powerful than early ones????
