Any suggestions for valve spring compressor?

Hi Guys, just wondering what you use to compress your L28 valve springs with head on?

See some stuff on eBay but good to get recommendations first

I rounded off a 17mm valve locking nut or two when adjusting lash, so I'm going to compress springs, remove the rockers and replace a couple of nuts using a 6-sided socket which is safer than a spanner (they were super-tight!)

also does anyone know the thread size for the valve adjustment nuts?

Cheers, Nick

You don't need a valve spring compressor to do that job; just slack off the adjuster fully and lever a big spanner between cam and valve retainer. You only need about 1mm compression to clear the rocker

No can do - I don't want to round off the nuts any more then they are, or they could be extremely hard to remove.

I was hoping to get rid of the rocker and get decent access from above with a 6 sided socket and breaker bar before applying any more torque. A 6 sided socket should do the job. Spanners will just spread, even a bloody Gedore :)eek:)

How would you get the bottom claws under the spring base, plus I doubt it would fit particulalry as the clearance of the springs next to the cam towers is very tight

Ive used the one Morbias linked to for years, plus a small piece of think rope down the plug hole to stop the valve being pushed down

Ah, didn't realise you hadn't managed to undo the lock nuts. I'd assumed you'd undone them, but rounded them in the process and needed to replace them.
