Well decided to join the forum as I am starting to look for a Z car :)

Currently own a R35 GTR (running about 620bhp with a load of other mods) and a 350z (which is currently the daily driver, but there are some plans for that as well). Basically I have taken the GTR as far as I really want to, just some brake changes and some track wheels to get, but then thats done (can post info and pics if wanted). The 350z is going for some brake and suspension mods and then in the summer will be stripped of some excess weight and that will be it while its the daily.

Now, after buying the GTR, I decided that it covered the GT and the going fast aspect..... now I am looking for something that is older and is a little different. Ideally (money no object), I would go for a classic GTR (Hakosuka), but the prices are rather high before import duties..... who knows, maybe one day

So pretty much decided on the Z and started doing my research, which included watching lots of YouTube videos of RB coversions :driving:

I am based in Surrey, near Redhill and if there is anyone with a 240/260/280z in the area I would love a chance to have a look around the car.

Here are some pics of the current cars:-

Wow, that's some garage you're accruing. I'm back down to one Zed after selling the 350z, which I'm beginning to regret a bit, but the 260z will always put a bigger smile on my face.

I'm sure there are a couple of S30's down your neck of the woods and accommodating members to show you their cars. Good choice ;)

Welcome Graham.

I'm pleased you've decided to take the plunge and enter the classic Zed world!
I think the GTR is about the ultimate useable everyday performance car, so you have that covered.

However a Zed can be made to be a serious performer even if you choose to stick to the Lseries engine.
You will also find that a Zed will give you a level of feed back that nothing modern can ever replicate.
Good luck with your hunt and, do share your ideas and progress with us.

I very nearly sold the 350z, but decided to live with it and make a few changes... will see how it goes once its not a daily and once I have (hopefully) the classic Z.

Oh definitely, very little can beat the GTR, with a few choice mods and considering the price, I am very happy with it. Bought it new nearly 2 years ago and still have not even considered selling it!! Love it!!!

That is exactly why I want a Z.... I know it wont be as fast as the GTR, but it doesnt have to be, just needs to be FUN!!!! Have the sound track to match!

Correct me if I'm wrong Graham, a standard GTR runs about 11.7 on the quarter mile?

There is a modified Zed on here running 11.2's on road tires!
Food for thought! ;)

Definitely something to consider for the future :D

Probably about right, not been on the drag strip. My car standard was 480bhp according to the fact sheet, it was dyno'd (SRR) before mods to document and made 499bhp. With simple mods (K&N panel filters, decat, downpipes, fuel injectors and a remap) it made 612bhp. I have since had a new map and should be around 620bhp. So on the 1/4 should be into the 10s.... engine build and turbos will see north of 720bhp, but then have to consider gearbox, clutches, etc.

I have seen a couple of Zs running good times on the strip and one rather fast one on Laguna Seca (lapping porsches and imprezas) - very looked very good. However this is not what I want the Z for.... ;)

Heres my GTR on track (for speed comparison :) its passing a 350z):-
