ADJUSTABLE REAR SHOCKS

FYI IIRC

On UK spec cars the shocks can be stiffened up by moving the handbrake up as you suggested. Jap spec and US spec I believe have a switch for this so you could look into doing a conversion. This is part of the HICAS system I think so it's all done by clever gizmos usually but say you were to take your car to the strip one handbrake click or something will get you started. This ISN'T putting the handbrake on though btw <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

The much used parking brake switch also provides an input to the HICAS control unit on automatic cars (a clutch switch signal on manual), but I don't think there is any relationship between switching rear damper force and the operation of the HICAS system. However, it does suggest that one should beware of eliminating the HICAS signal if you modify the handbrake switch wiring for manual damper switching......
And - driving with the handbrake engaged one notch to switch to firm damping may affect operation of HICAS on autos......next experiment please?

Hi Russ,

yep, research and Mike F have already confirmed that
Aha - thanks to Mike, a little light begins to dawn.
US = all 4 adjustable shocks controlled both by switch and handbrake
UK = adjustable rears only
J = no adjust
(details earlier in this thread)

The manual(s) don't show any connection to HICAS at least as far as I can see.

No-one has yet come up with ANY reason why the UK car has rear shocks which go "firm" when the handbrake is on!

Boy am I glad I've got a J-spec where this is not relevant!

Cheers- Gio
