RUMOURMILL: V8 FOR NEXT NISSAN Z?

Details emerge on Nissan's 370Z

Nissan is considering dropping a V8 into its next Z car, according to reports. Japan’s Best Car magazine, which has a reputation for speculation, has apparently bagged an interview with the new car’s chief of production Shinjiro Yukawa. He has revealed that the Porsche Cayman S will now be the new Z34’s main rival and more power will be in store. He reportedly said he wanted to ‘raise the performance of the new Z’ and the base model will be packing the 3.7-litre, VQ37HVR V6 found in the Infiniti G37 with 335bhp and 278lb ft. of torque.
However he also said that a V8 model could appear as a special edition, although whether it would ever see the light of day outside Japan is debatable. Expected to be called the 370Z, the car is said to be getting ‘L-shaped’ front lights and the A-pillar and roof should ape the new GT-R’s lines.
The top-spec S and ST versions are likely to roll on upgraded 19-inch wheels, while lower models make do with 18-inch wheels. Brembo 6-piston front and 4-piston rear brakes will be fitted to the high-end models.
The new car is expected to be 100kg lighter than the outgoing model and will come with a six-speed manual ‘box or a seven-speed ‘manual mode’ auto. The price of the V8 is estimated to be 5,000,000 yen (£23,700) in Japan and 4,700,000 yen (£22,000) for the V6.
