3 Phase electrics and lifts at home

Hi all. I'm moving house soon and considering putting a lift in the garage. I've seen old lifts on ebay relatively cheap but they all require 3 phase electrics.

Does anyone know if there is a way around this or if its possible to convert them etc?

Cheers,

Wes

Check the motor hp on the lift Wes . I think you can get new motors on ebay up to 5 hp nowadays which is all you can put through single phase. If the motor is more than that it's a phase converter (10hp converter will be about a grand new) or get and old 3 phase genny from a receiver sale. Sometimes the electric board flog off their old ones cheap.

The other thing you could check is the gearing off the lift, if you altered the gearing a single phase motor would work although it would take longer, but who cares for home use....

So I could basically buy a 1hp motor if I wanted and gear it down. (I won't)

I think I'll hunt a lift down and then work the rest out after!

Cheers,

Wes
