Chaps,

Following a recent breakdown ( caused by ye olde alternator ) it made me think about the other old parts under bonnet.....I've rebuilt / replaced most other stuff to maintain reliability but I think the oldest part is now the ignition coil....its obviously a critical part and it looks like it could be original !....

Has anyone replaced a coil recently - does anyone have any part numbers ?, are there any good alternatives from the likes of bosch....?, etc

Any advice appreciated.
Ash.

My car was running dog rough when I bought it - I changed everything in the ignition circuit one piece at a time and each part made a noticeable or significant difference - Magnacore HT kv85 leads first, then the coil, alternator, dizzy, plugs, wire wool or file cleaning all contacts and earth points etc ...

Coil was a 260z Bosch with ballast resistor from eBay and worked a charm before I replaced dizzy with 280zx electronic one. Replaced that coil with Lucas 280zx coil an no ballast resistor required. Been on the car over two years and going strong after 4k miles.

The OEM 280ZX ignition coil is a powerful and reliable unit, albeit a tad expensive...
