280Z price guide - LHD Import

Hi

I saw a lovely 240z in Liverpool a few weeks ago and made me go back to look at an imported LHD 280Z that I think has a hemmy in it and had a full interior update, Nando grey, and full wide kit extending out, but of course, all I can see is in pictures.

I can go view the car, but price where should it be? Are 280z worth a lot less than 240? Assume an LHD worth less than an RHD as not a lot of RHD compared to the LHD variants.

I would have to inspect it and check underneath for rust, hope it would be ok as full body respray with all interior out and some welding done for body kit, but it could have needing work still and paint hiding it.

Any guidance - 20k been mentioned but looking that feels punchy.

I know which car you're talking about. Been for sale (albeit not very visibly) for years. It's in Manchester right? I've never seen it in person, but it's not to my taste so I didn't bother viewing.

As you say, it could have been done badly and could be hiding stuff. Take a magnet with you!

Have a good look underneath, in the arches, doglegs, spare wheel well, rad supports and under the battery tray.

Personally though I wouldn't buy any car that's got a newish paint job without the owner showing photos of how it was done, and what it looked like before.

The current seller only imported it I believe, so I'd be surprised if he has any of that, but you never know.

I do think 20k is a little steep for it though. It's a very specific look (especially with that interior) and the market for it is small. Probably why he hasn't managed to shift it in 2 or 3 years.

Personally (again) I would find a more honest looking 280z, and then do it up in your taste - stick big flares on if that's your bag. I believe those huge arches is currently has are welded on, rather than being made of poly or glass fibre. So you wouldn't ever be able to return it to a more stock look without spending a lot of money. Just something to bear in mind. But if that car is exactly what you're aiming for for the end product anyway, it might be perfect.

Let us know if you go and see it.

Oh and yeah, LHD cars are worth less here. Original UK RHD cars though are expensive for what they are, and many have been patched up hugely over the years. It's a bloody minefield!

240s are the most desirable of the 2-Seaters to most people. You're probably looking at £10k over the cost of an equivalent 260/280

When selling in the UK market only, LHD probably reduces the value by £10k for an equivalent quality RHD car.

Modifications can go either way, well done they can add tens of thousands (up to 80k ala MZR) or subtract the same amount if they have been done badly / in an unpopular way and need to be reverted.

As already mentioned, I'd say the car in question is suffering from a combo of being LHD and modified in an unpopular way. But if it's solid, and driveable that has a lot of residual value.

People tend to go for the first model out Ie the 240 ,The 260 is the most rarest of the lot and poss the 2+2 ,the late 260 is the better car in many peoples eyes but that’s just an opinion,280 Z is the better car to drive due to the FI but no where near the value of a 240/260 over here hence you see the silly prices still being asked for some cars, save up a bit more and get a RHD although in theory you’d have a bigger market to sell to as in europe but we are not in Europe Now are we
