Reported on another site that it went for over £12k plus the 10 - 15% commission so near 14 grand

had a look at it when i dropped off a Mustang. Got to be said not a nice car in a lot of respects.Left rear wheel arch had a 'flat' in it where it was v poorly repaired, loads of sinkage in the filler on the front 3or 4 inches of the bonnet. Drivers door proud of sill by around 1/2" but maybe because drivers door bottom was around 1'2" thick with filler. Stopped bothering to look after the obvious but think any buyer could be opening 'a can of worms' when they get into it in depth

Thats exactly what I said about it from when I first saw it about 20 months ago. Its a great '20 footer'.

Hi

Many thanks for description. Glad I didn't bid for it. Duncan at Z Farm has found a car for me that sounds perfect. What a helpful chap and extremely knowledgeable. Went to see him a few months ago, very impressed. Hope to be able to buy :driving:

Feel sorry for the poor soul who bought that shed, though owners of better cars should be happy if they need to sell. Probably some dodgy garage has bought it to bodge it a bit more!!
Warning to everyone wanting a 240z please do not buy it and remember the reg no

That is an interesting point.
Here's my thoughts, feel free to disagree.................

Years and years ago when a relatively newish z starts to suffer from rust the owner will have a 'little plate' tacked in to pass the mot.
Then the next time a couple more.
Then the car is sold and then perhaps another 'little plate' is welded in for the mot.
Then the car is sold many times so in the end it's a patchwork quilt.
I don't think the owner at the end is to blame for the history of the car, he just wants a few quid back.
However if a professional garage/seller tries to shift a bodged car then that is not right.
Either they do not know what they are trying to sell or are pulling a fast one.
I have visited Duncans place many times and have seen cars rebuilt from start to finish.
There is no rusty bits covered in bodge and painted .
It costs a fortune to do it properly and the end price tag will inevitably match.
If you buy a uk 240 for 15 grand and it is rot free, and I mean rot free then it's a good buy.
So what if the sill is wonky ....fix it.

Yeah i agree with some of what you have said, but the owner of this one has had at least 3 years to sort it but chose to waste money on ruining the inside twice having electric windows and central locking fitted wtf!! and could not give a toss about the important bits
Nuff said eh!!!

Duncan, just put the cheque in the post and I'll deliver it to your door :)

Methinks there was a man who needed a Z at Stoneleigh on Saturday, hopefully there'll be someone with a similar want when I come to sell mine, but he'll have to wait a while.

This car shows the value of this site, it's always worth looking at the specialist forum before stepping into a classic purchase, one case in point is the Powder Blue 68 911 that sold on Saturday, it too has a back story and is not quite what it may seem on the surface, a quick visit to the respective 911 forum would have made any bidder aware.

We all live and learn :)

Hope the new owner doesn't join the forum and reads this thread he will be well gutted:(:(:banghead: feel sorry for him as i know what it takes to get a car top condition :(

Surely if you were going to spend that kind of money on a Z you would check it out first though?

Kev, the original owner didn't know, he thought it was perfect so spent the cash on the inside, he then found out when myself and others viewed the car but walked away, he sold it at auction and got his original purchase price and lost the ££££'s(5k I think) he wasted on prettyfication(is that a word!?), A dealer/speculator bought it then shifted it on(I guess to an unlucky punter who then found out about its filler issues), then it appeared at auction again.

I guess you're looking at 7kish for the bodywork including paint? So you're then 22ish K in or more if you make the inside like it should be so lets say £25k.

At that point for a rust and filler free car would it be fair to say that'd be fair market value for a sorted car at a dealer?

No one is asking whether this is a decent car with a sill/door alignment issue.
A filled bonnet is exactly that and nothing else.
As is any other minor bodywork issue, do you not reckon if you bought this car and found out it was A1 under the panels you would be chuffed???
I don't know the history and joined the thread late so may be talking out the ar$e!

I think at one auction it sold for £8k, I think at that it'd be worth it as a project basis. Its not a bad car IMO, just massively overpriced.

but the standard of work to the exterior which is visible would suggest to me that even less care would be taken in the areas that are unseen until you go 'digging' ! Must have cost more to bodge the bonnet than to buy a good ex USA bonnet.(sorry Craig)
