1/4 mile terminal speed

much prefer figures from an engine dyno and diesels may be slow over a standing 1/4 but they keep winning 24 hour races

Here's a little light reading
Look at the scatter graphs of several equations all pivoting around the old speed/mass/acceleration chestnut
Stealth 316 - Formulas for 1/4 mile ET & mph vs. hp & wgt

And scatter graphs of a large number of stock production cars tested by every day average jo blogs
misc/performance_lrt2.xls

Read the artical (citing a number of published papers)

This will help you understand how the human factors can be quantified and balanced out and an accepted (by a number of academic institutions) figure can be derived, mainly buy using te MPH method rather than the ET method

For a real world example
Nissan GTR day out at Santa Pod last year (new GTR).........the differance between a rank novice and an experianced driver (both driving stock GTR's over several runs was less than half a second all day....all of them on or around the time stated by Nissan and non of them launching particularly hard, back work the weight and trap speed, correlate against the ET and hey presto within a nats of the book HP

Next time, I will ask if Mr Magoo can have a go.

Just another point though, it was suggested that you can't have an all singing all dancing car....what about the new GTR, it will do the nurbugring in around 7.5 minutes and in stock form will pull an 11 second 1/4
What about the Ariel atom, the CPL tunned one will run a sub 10 second 1/4 and will take apart just about anything on a track.
What about an Ultima GTR, 9 second 1/4 and one of the quickest cars ever around the top gear track (done without TG's approval).

Don't want to go shopping in either of those...:D

what about the new GTR,

Not a nine second drag car...

Who am I kidding - I still want one and it is the best all-rounder produced by a regular manufacturer - ever! And with a few mods they have run nines and driven home afterwards...
