Hi

I have a very good GTO 250 replica on a 260Z Chassis. Can anybody recommend a good Datsun specialist who could re-do the floor panels, chassis etc? I am in the West Country. So Fourways and the Z Barn are a long way away.

Thanks

Andy

I am in Minehead It is going to be a expensive project and I feel that the work is more likely to be done better by somebody who is familiar with the cars.

I think we're going to need some pics really - if you give metalwork/welding to do to someone who is capable they should be able to do it no matter what car it is ...

I can see where you're coming from as regards familiarity with replacement panels etc - but it's just metal at the end of the day and pretty simple. I don't think there are that many areas where specialist knowledge of the car is required, just what to do with the metal to achieve the desired resto level. Plenty of places about but personal recommendation is key. Doesn't have to be a Datsun specialist though to me.

The only 'specialist' with a good history is Fourways.

Otherwise just find a local place with a good reputation, if you don't want to trailer it.

Yes that is what I had gathered. If I could find somebody local I would be delighted. I have already spoken to Four ways who have done one before that is now used in film work. Within reason money is not the problem, I just want it done as best as it possibly can.

I will upload some pics tomorrow when I can.

I have done a floor replacement myself with sheet metal so I'm sure a professional can do it. You're not after originality i.e. shape of 'pressings' in the floor so find yourself a local fabricator.

Oh well, as you live in North Devon, Minehead and nobody else has given you a recommendation, I can give you one good recommendation, Exeter based a Company called Retro Shack. You can look at their work on the forum under hybrid, there is a member on here who is having his Datsun done at the moment and the car is still there. As for the prices there are as reasonably priced as anybody else. I guarantee you, you might start with the floor pans but you will end up with a lot more. I use a guy called Dan and he is a top class fabricator, but he not available until September time.

Looking at the floors I can see that there is a lot of work and as suggested if the car has been allowed to get this bad then there could well be more work elsewhere. You are now faced with a difficult practical and financial decision - how far do I go, who do I use and how much is it worth spending on this car.

We can help you decide but you will need to expose the rest of the car's structure and share pics with us.

If you take this car to a 'top class' bodyshop it may cost you £thousands. It may cost a thousand for the floors?
