So, the French cuckoo ( s tubborn bird that won't let go of a good idea) and I, the royal we, were discussing a Euro Z event.
I then spoke to the flying pink pig and it was agreed that perhaps 'Billing' could (and should?) evolve into something new. Circuits cost big money, auto-tests ca'nt always be held at campsites, security, noise, damage etc but our cars were made an and kept in the condition to DRIVE! Where can you appreciate them most now with your overcrowded roads, even on Sundays and speed cameras on every country lane and petrol at how much a litre - 85p, more?

What if there was a Euro run every year or every second year, alternating between the UK (you do have the largest concentration of Zs) and a continental country?
I'm talking about France, Holland, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, maybe Sweden.
I know our roads are great, uncrowded and petrol costs less than 70p per litre and sometimes even the sun shines!
Accomodation and food doesn't have to be expensive either.
See some sites, make new friends, in short breathe and let your car do the same!

If the States can put on big events for people coming from all over their country, why can't we? Yes, there have been International events been held, notably by the Germans, Swiss and Dutch, but I'm talking about something bigger, more complete, involving convoys of cars arriving from all over - can you picture it? Were you at Billing this year and felt the pride when seeing Jap car after car arrive when you thought the area was already full!

This can happen.
Sean
ps Thanks lil Suzy for your support and offer of help.

having attended the dutch 2000 meeting I think you could have a winning combo here It might even attract interest from Nissan.

So what are your priority for such an event?
Could our beloved webmaster start a poll here, in order for us to clear our minds?
ex :
# 1 On a racetrack
# 2 A field is enough
# 3 Lets go Go-kart Euro Challenge
# 2 On a week-end
# 3 A long one, more like Friday till Monday...
# 4 Near a site of interest
# 5 It doesn't matter as long as my wife (husband) can go shopping around
# 6 You have to entertain my kids also...
# 7 Can’t stand the local food, I want to do my own cooking
# 8 Can’t stand my wife’s cooking, glad to taste the local food

It's endless just trough in you wishes and the Cuckoo Wizard will make them come true...

Get realistic - a circuit , certainly over here is going to cost the skin off your....
The Dutch can do it because they have big help from Nissan who have certain connections with Zandvoort Circuit to the benefit of anyone who has driven round that circuit - I've got my trophies!

If you want to race, be part of the team that we have proposed for the next Le Mans Classic 2004, if racing around the full Le Mans circuit is too much for you, go and race Dinkys! A Euro event must appeal to a very broad range of people, with kids, couples with varied tastes and ideas of what a good, long weekend should have. It also should be relatively central so that no-one, or at least the fewest people have to travel an humongest amount of miles - sorry all you Scottish, Spanish, Swedish etc.

Having said that, all views welcome but keep the heads on shoulders!

Geoff Gale is also definitely up for a Euro Z rally but as he is still in the dark ages as far as computers are concerned I’m repyling on his behalf, so add another interested member to your list.

Adrian I know you are out there and do a fair bit of Euro travel anyway so what are your views?

For me a long weekend would be great, good wine, good food, good company and the seeing as many Z’s as possible driving through rural France. The pyrenees would be amazing but realise that as a first venture this maybe a little ambitious but maybe one day........

Hello Suzy

Come over for the weekend 17/18th May next Spring to the Golf of Morbihan in Brittany.
Visit and tour of an island by boat, scenic drives, visit to the country chateau of the Dukes of somewhere important, visit Carnac - Frances' Stonehenge and eat well.
It kicks off (weather permitting) with a beach party/BBQ on the Friday evening - bring a friend...better still, brings loads of 'em - epecially if they've got Zeds!
Average price per person (twin/double room) is pounds 100, ferry, petrol (cheap over here) and shopping not included.

PS
Would you be prepared to wait until later next year to visit further south, icluding the Pyrennees?
I hope to be driving down there (and back) in the same day shortly to look at a 240Z for sale but I 'll be checking it out for a full weekend before too long.

What would be your idea of a good weekend down there
driving
eating
sightseeing
walks in the fresh, clean air

So, I note that there have been over 80 viewings, but just 6 replies and I wrote half of them. Are you all going to sit at home or perhaps trundle 30 miles to some local event? Get those cars in 5th - let 'em breathe and tell us if you want to participate in something big like in the states!

I think we are going to start something up (in 2004) with a run in France finishing at Le Mans and the 24 hour race in June.
There are less people on the roads, the season hasn't fully started and the weather seems more stable than in July/August.
Next May (2003) we will be in Brittany and in Septemberwe hope to host a weekend in the Toulouse area.
We are also making enquiries for Ledenon circuit where I think it costs 50 euros for unlimited track time in one day.

For me also the JAE wasn't my scene, I prefer a cool weekend when I can sleep at night! They were too many, over-excited, over-paid kids with little taste and no hearing!

I can assure you that the weekends that we put on here are much less formal -a gentlemans outing - put us to the test!

Hi,
Can't agree more about Billing this year, it was more like Max Power Live!
Might be interested in a meet in Brittany as its not too far to drive on the French side of the water!
We have been to France on holiday for the last 3 years, and I still can't believe how empty the roads mostly are!
I drove my Z32 NA back from the Lot region a couple of years ago and the speedo rarely left the 100-120mph zone!
We now have a baby daughter and an older Z31 Turbo, so I'm not as keen on the longer distance trips now.I leave these to my 1.6 Rover .The ZX might make it to Brittany though!

Sean,

Brittany sounds really good. It's an area that I've wanted to visit for a long time.

Personally, I've always enjoyed driving in France, not too mention stopping, eating and drinking! So I'd welcome the chance to go somewhere I haven't been before over there, plus it's a chance to practice that school-boy Franglais!!

Please let me know the details when available, and provided I can get out of work, me and the missus would love to tag along.

CheerZ,
John.

Sorry Sean didn’t mean to ignore you!!

Brittany sounds excellent and so does a trip ending up at Le Mans.

I’m a member of Brittany ferries owners aboard club and as such get a couple of 10% off voucher each year so if anyone is interested in using them for one of Sean’s outings let me know. Brittany do Portsmouth/St Malo/Caen, amongst other. I’ve also found out over the years that if you can book as early as possible you can also get some good deals on the Tunnel.

Yeah I know I've already posted this elsewhere but the news must spread quickly.
STOP PRESS

Brittany dates have changed!!!

Due to overwhelming pressure from interested parties, we have put back the Golf of Morbihan (Brittany) weekend which will now be held on June 6/7/8th.

Why, because the Le mans 24 hour race is the weekend after - 14/15 and plenty of people want to combine both to warrant the trip.

The programme will start the same with a beach party the Friday 6th, and planned over the weekend, an island boat trip, a visit to the Dukes of Brittanys' summer chateau, the medieaval city of Vannes, scenic routes around the Golf and more besides fine food and great company.

We will endeavour to keep you amused during the week until Le Mans - don't forget that race qualifying starts the Wednesday evening - really not to be missed!

IMPORTANT

Your accommodation for Le Mans needs to be booked NOW.

Email Sean at seanz@wanadoo.fr
or call 0033 6 10 82 72 21

We look forward to welcoming you

Over 200 viewings and still limited feedback!

In June next year, we offer you a fully organised weekend trip in Brittany with the option of staying over here for the week and experiencing the Le Mans 24 Hour race.

In September, we offer you a weekend in the Toulouse area to include (programme subject to changes) tours in the hills and visits to local sites including the medieval city of Carcassone. Don't forget that the Med. sea is just 1 hours drive away!

We will be at The Z Clubs' next summer bash too and if anyone invites our club to their do, we'll do our best to be there!
But it's not easy organising events so even if you're not sure you can come (now or later), some feedback would be constructive.

Don't be misled by this topics' listing under shows - our weekends move 'cos Zeds were built to be driven!
