Got me a set of core plugs ... and went to work with them. Popped out the old and tapped in the new using a socket and hammer (as advised by many a mechanic). Even used a bit of the old blue sealant to make sure.

I then turned my attention to the turbo. I knew it was tired and suspected that it was leaking oil a bit from tired seals. However on further investigation I found an even bigger issue that will definatly put a hamper on progress on that front.

As you can see there is a ruddy great crack in the casting eminating from the wastegate actuator port. To be honest I think that this will put this little fella beyond reapir and I am defianatly not happy with putting it back on afer all this work has been done only to have it disintegrate on me. For all I know its fracturing in other places I cannot see and then it will be dead for sure and might take something out with it.

Well it wasn't a total disappointment to be honest. I have been toying with the idea of replacing the mill with something a bit beefier, now at least I have an excuse ;)

Damn ! Sorry Neil........but when adding a bigger turbo will you then up the pressure towards getting the magic 300 bhp ?

No worries Sean. I cannot blame you for anything. To be honest the seals have been leaking a bit and this sort of thing can only be found if you happen to think "I know I will take the turbo off and disassemble it because I have nothing better to do"

And yes with a bigger turbo I will be upping the boost to the magical 300 bhp :)

Mr F did have a brand new one for sale not long ago if you wanted the less expensive route..........but I know what I'd do..............

I think he sold it. However I have been loking at some T28's that are floating about. Not massively bigger but can more than handle 12 PSI and two a penny from old Pulsar's and Z32's

your T25 Turbo should be able to take the car upto 300bhp

from other forums I think they are safe upto 1 bar, dunno how reliable that information is lol

Mine wouldn't with that crack in the housing, and with leaking oil seals then I would be surprised if it lasted much more on the stock 4.5 psi. :D

Nah with the ideas in mind and also wanting a reliable 12 psi boost having a larger mill that doesn't have to strain to give consistant response I will be happier with the T28. As said they are common as muck and also i need to replace it anyway. Might as well get a decent second hand one and replace the seals while I am at it.
