Solid Diff Mount

As seen on Ebay

Sure everyone's seen them, but where do they go n what's the point of them?

Does the diff move excessively under power or summert?

They replace the rubber bush under the front end of the diff, that connects the diff to the front cross member. When larging it, the diff nose is lifted away from the cross member by the engine torque, which after a while buggers up the rubber bush, hence the stupid strap thing you'll also find going over the top of the diff nose.

So, solution 1, replace rubber with metal and everyone's happy? Well apart from additional noise and vibration from the diff being passed through to the chassis, and slightly increased risk of chassis being tweaked by large torque loads not getting absorbed by rubber. It's definitely one of them compromise things.

Cheers,
Rob

I thought the diff was mounted free from the body in it's own rubber mounted cradle tho?

No need for me "when lol" I have to change the diff in my car?

Worth buying iyo?

To be honest, nope, I think they risk introducing more stress than necessary. Check out this thread for a simple mod to the existing mount to make it more secure:

Nice an simple, unlike my silly idea I had a while ago ;)

Dunno about the rubber cradle thing though, sounds a bit kinky!!

You didn't say that the other day :D

No worries anyway, I've yet to worry about the rear end. Atm my cars going no where until it's got an exhaust on it :D

Written by a man warning us of prop-shafts coming through the transmission tunnel not so long ago (here) post #12.

Perhaps it was the standard rubber mount on the diff after all ????

I got my solid front and rear diff mounts from Arizona Z Car - very sexy, very cheap and dead easy to get. Give them the credit card and they turn up at your house :D

Another solution - although maybe a bit too elegant - is to use a couple 'C' channel members and create a modified torque tube that locks the tailshaft of the transmission to the input of the differential. That totally eliminates the front mount in question. That is the approach used on my LS1/T56 conversion and it works very well. It is a rather complicated system and not something you'll pull off in a weekend.
