Silverstone jaunt has made my Z poorly

Had a great time a silverstone today, but things went wrong on the way home, just got on the M54 when a severe grinding noise appeared from the rear end  so pull on the hard shoulder suspect the diff is goosed, so decided to crawl along the hard shoulder to get off at the next juction then the car cut out the electric full pump had packed in, then tried to open the bonnet & the cable snaped they say things happen in 3's anyway got recovered & relieved of £180 :(. I would like to say a big thank you to the guy in the white Z31 who offered his assistance  sorry did not get your name. Also thanks to the guy in the early 120Y who tooted his horn as he past my stranded Z. Still I think myself lucky as alot worse could have happened like the poor guy with the Samuri G that caught fire for the second time since he has owned it he is gutted.

Looks like its goin to be a trip up into the loft....for a few parts...;)

Hope you get it fixed up mate..

Glad you got home Gywn OK

Have got a better story than that me and Mark Rayner on the M6 were attacked by a DARLEK i kid you not !!!!!!

Hi Gwyn

Sorry I missed you. I left Silverstone shortly after the C2 session - you probably left later otherwise I am sure that I would have seen you on the hard shoulder and tried to assist.

I had a very nasty noise coming from my engine coming off the B1 session but fortunately this turned out to be an air blockage in the fuel pump which sorted itself out later. Phew!

I've got an even better story Dave, I saw a lovely girl in a Mark sandwich!

Sorry to hear about the diff Gwyn, I keep reading in 'Buyers Guides' how indestructable Z transmissions are. Well I don't think most members would agree, mind you they are getting some stick these days with all the mods people are doing to their cars!

I was in the white Z31, I'm just sorry there was nothing I could do to help.

Them recovery companies charge a fortune don't they?? I bet you'll have AA cover next time. :)

Anyway, glad you made it home.

Anyone got an update about this ? I saw him stranded as I left with a bonnett covered in white powder.

Hope the fire was extinguished quickley and the damage was nothing like last time.

looked like a great day, so many lovely loking Z's. On the subject of breakdown cover..... http://www.autoaidbreakdown.co.uk/ is good way to go....you get full cover, parts, labour and recovery including hotel bill if they can't get you home. costs £34 !!! you have to pay the bill at the roadside, then you send them the bill and they pay within 10 days.

Hi Gwyn, just back from a few days in France. I also had problems as my head gasket let go on the second track session. Thanks to Big chef and PMac for assisting to diagnose the problem. Got back home OK by leaving the rad cap loose - looks like a cylinder/waterway problem rather than an oilway/waterway one as no smoke from the exhaust and no white emulsion on the dipstick. Looks like it was caught early so hopefully has not caused any major problem but will get the head skimmed anyway - can anyone recommend a good engine shop in the B'ham area to do this ? Cheers.

Thanks Zedhead, Paul Matts here - yes on both counts - the fire was extinguished quickly and the damage is no where near as bad as last time. Could say a lot, but won't here... meanwhile, back to the process of insurance claim and restoration - and also changes to ensure this never happens again... Many thanks to all those who've e:mailed and phoned with sympathy and advice - I appreciate it very much. Learnt a lot in last few months
