This club has often been criticised for its stuffy outlook and approach....good to see standards being upheld......tartan blankets and picnic baskets any one.

Re quick shifts
I have one stashed in a box somewhere, ran it in 2004, and took it off after a few days.
Its a poor engineering solution, that will not fail to disappoint.

As Sean says (God I hate agreeing with him) change the box, problem solved move on.

But I agree with you mon cher Skidden, velvet seat covers and a nose 'bra' for me next in my Z - I want to conform to the latest club sociability standards !

And who can find the best 4 letter words in another language to get past the censors (sound a bit Monty Python this) ?.........enculé !

Guys, for those of you who know me I can enjoy a laugh and joke as much as the rest. There is a time and place for it.

Whilst on here I am a member enjoying his Z and also a Committee Member putting something back into the Club. I also have a responsibility as a Moderator.

We recently had a specific problem with some people using offensive language, some of the words used I would not use in front of my wife, kids etc and so one of our Committe sorted it so that the Forum identifies specific words and 'blanks' them. . This way it keeps the Forum respectable and also individual Moderators cannot be accused of being 'stuffy'.

Steve (K) and Rob (H) when you produced the magazine would you have allowed the language we have had on here?

Certain people now think it's funny to get round the system to post 'moderated' words. I find this childish.

This is a thread about gear shifters, but as usual 'digs' have been made at the Committee (because swear words can't be used ) and now the usual culprits are joining in. We are getting a bit sick of this.

And please don't string this Thread out with 'you said this' and 'I said this' etc. Let's have a technical discussion about gear shifters.

My input - unless fractions of a second are absolutely essential e.g. Drag competition just change gear at the speed the box is designed for. If you need a super-quick box then buy one. It's quite satisfying getting a change right with an old box.

I have damaged a few boxes by trying to 'snatch' gears and ultimately catching reverse. At the Gold Cup last year I spoke to a 240Z owner who is a highly respected international race driver of many many years. When talking about Z boxes and S14 mods etc he smiled and said to me 'just relax and change gear slower'. Later that day he drove a very impressive race in a mini.

Thank you all for sticking with the thread. I think based on your input I´ll stick with the standard shifter. It sounds good to shift fast, but the cheap ones will probably increase wear on the gearbox.

Good to have you on here posting Hendrik....keep up the development....oh and please go to a proper rolling road, headline numbers are worthless, you need a graph to tell you something:thumbs::cheers:

Difficult to do so when you have just compared apples with Aardvarks, this is a forum (look up the definition) not a magazine....... I am not a huge fan of expletives however we often see some harmless "fun" posts being criticised.

I have had my say, I won't go off topic again, back to quick shifts.

I had a similar kit on my old car and yes it was 5hite, I changed to a proper B&M shifter in the end which was very good indeed, But I agree with both the onion muncher and Steve when they say fit a newer Nissan box, I have and it's a lot better to use and I can actually get spares for it unlike the standard box.

In the long run I'd of thought the cost of fitting the newer S14a box in my case will more than be off set by not having to buy second hand boxes to replace the standard one a few times when they keep going wrong, Or paying over the odds for the spares that maybe available if you're lucky enough to find them.
