Price Guide

Morning All. going back to valuations, I watched with interest the ebay sale last week of the white UK 240z in need of total restoration. Achieved £9k, if you didn't see it. Did a club member buy it? I hope it's for rebuild not parts.

Did that really go for £9k in the end? My word ...just shows the strength of RHD. A LOT of work required though ...

No-one in their right mind buys a RHD car for parts for that much money!

When I compare that to the seemingly rather nice Burnt Orange one that went on Classic Car Auctions a few weeks back, for £18.8k + 10% comm., it doesn't make sense. How can you rebuild for £10k?

Indeed. I saw it just after it finished and couldn't believe my eyes.

It's a parts car. Complete insanity from a financial perspective to restore and way too much money for the condition IMO. It makes no sense when you could buy a US project car for ££££ less with minimal rust (and RHD convert if required).

If it's the car I am thinking of, it's been the subject of discussion on here. I've never seen the car in question but I think there were a few question marks raised about it in various threads ...

This is the one. Perhaps it's just good photography!

That car FAC518K has done the auction rounds over recent years and gives us a great insight into how 240Z prices have appreciated over last 7 years. Aside from seats being re-trimmed since 2009 seems to be in similar condition each time so comparing like for like.

July 2009 sold at H&H for £ 8.5k
Feb 2013 sold at Silverstone for £ 14.5k
Jun 2016 sold at CCA for £ 20.6k

The consensus seems to be it's a bit of a bitsa ... neither one thing or the other - but you'd have to know the cars pretty well (as lots do on here) to spot this stuff straight away ...

Maybe that's why the price seemed to be on the low side ...

Mind you, if you love the shape and aren't that bothered by the little bits that are wrong, who cares - the bloke down the pub will never call you out for it ... such is the rarity of these cars ...

You're absolutely right. One man's meat and all that. I've noticed most cars seem to have 'embellishments' to their owner's taste. Anyone got a totally original one, out of interest?

Save a rubbish respray and an ali rad, mine's pretty original right down to the 44yo carpets and original spare tyre. There's lots on here with original cars I think ...

I'm with you there, mines had fresh carpets though, wouldn't use the original Bridgestone but it's nice to have

I'm not a real lover of the original steel wheels and hub caps. There are only a few on here that stick with this original look. Most modify and the first thing to go are usually the wheels. Even the dealers modified the cars and put Alloys on them before they left the showroom.

I must add, I do own a set of original steel wheels and hub caps so may take the blue car to a meeting one day with them fitted to retain the original look :)

Both the steelies and the slots (dealer option) are fine for an original car. I've been through the restomod thing with my fastback. I wanted an original car this time ...

That's interesting chaps, I was going to ask about the prevalence of Wolfrace wheels. So these were a dealer option in the day?

Not an officially sanctioned dealer option, but something pretty much everyone sold. The steelies are so damn ugly, it's not surprising!
