Just wondering really, what other engines have been put in Z's?

I know of V8's, Skylines, a beemer engine... anything from the Honda/Toyota side of the world, would that even be feasable?

Thanks :)

a honda S2000 engine and gearbox would be an excellent combination for a Z,i have seen a MK1 Escort in a ford mag with one fitted and they only had to trim a bit of the heat shield on the manfold to get it to fit so it would fit a Z no problem,240 Bhp and 6 speedbox nice!!!!!!!

I wouldn't fancy a wankel twofourty...

An s2000 sounds very tasty Moggy! :) But no doubt quite expensive!

Ah yes MR F the Nissan Engines, I've heard of but didn't know exactly which was used!

That rover is awful Russ, why would someone do such a thing? :D It'd be fast, but not a looker :D

We have a racecar 240z running a Supercharged LS1 in NZ. Absolutely insane, massive amounts of torque and hp full stop.

Hi,
Although the Honda motor produces 237hp, it's torque figure is quite low at 153 ft/lbs, so you would have to drive everywhere at 9000 revs!

You'd probably be better off with the wankel against the S2000 lump :) The Zs light, depends how you want your engine to make it's power. Zs tend to be pretty torquey cars so I wouldn't want to lose that and make driving the car hard work (hmm hangon, I bought a turbo Z with nothing much below 3k, d'oh!).

I think stroked RB engine, but set ALLLLLL the way back and with an ally block, so like SR20 weight/weight distribution, RB looks and power :)

My favourite engine would be something like the 1987 F1 BMW qualifying engine, 1500hp from a 1.4 or something running 70psi boost ;)

Wankle ;) ...interesting but sound DREADFUL, less torque than the Honda engine plus it needs a rebuild every 50K and your lucky if you can get 18 to the gallon....on a good run.

An RB30 with an RB25 head is what you need, bottom end is good for silly silly HP as standard, plus its still a straight six Nissan unit. Phone RIPS in Newzealand and you can have one landed ready to go for peanuts, all you need then is a space framed, fully tubbed shell to handle the power.

Wankel all the way :)

The Honda makes 147lbft, the RX8 160lbft, and still does a combined 26.2 in a (relatively lardy) RX-8 :)

How many years will it take you to do 50k in your Z?

The beauty of a wankel is that it only has about 3 parts, so your tuning path is more simple. And so smooth as well.

What I want is two of them, side by side, spinning alternate directions. Or one in each wheel on the back.

Look at this for some rotary acceleration, 600bhp, http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=fvPfi-ZeQRM

I agree though, RB makes more sense :)

What about a Jag straight-six? The 3.6 in my Dad's old XJS used to make 225 brake in stock form and they were horrible restricted on the air intake so more power was easily available. Pretty bulletproof old lumps and cheap to get hold of I'd have thought. Bloody heavy though I expect :-(

Russ, I used to have a Mk1 Elford turbo RX7 and it was mad mental at high engine speeds but low down was rubbish and I dont know where Mazda got those mpg figures from (lucky bag probably) but they are poles apart from the real world especially when you start tuning the ports
