OS Giken L6 Head.

Agree Jon that would be ideal.

Amazing torque figure of 264.5 Ft.lbs for an Lseries?
My E46 M3 only made 270 lbs from 3.2 litres, twin cam, twin Vanos 11.5 compression

It's a shame that Rabello feel the need to fudge their figures. I don't hear reports of bad engines just over exaggeration of the numbers.

Isn't that more to do with the way they measure and calculate?

Rebello have built L series engines making in excess of 300hp. There was at one time a reference to a "sprint/autocross" engine in this league.
BUT it ran a 13.1 compression ratio and used 106 octane race fuel.IIRC
So definitely not a off the shelf street engine.
Once again tho the figures were by Rebello and not independently verified
It is possible to get figures like that and it has been done elsewhere too.
I have seen authenticated printed material showing engines in this league in Japan
Once again tho they are NOT street engines. They are drag/sprint/race engines whos total life expectancy is measured in hours not years.
They utilise cement filled blocks. Extreme compression. huge valves with seats interlocking. Exquisitely worked heads. Slipper pistons. Light forged rods etc etc
Race fuel. Live on trailers and are only fired up a few minutes before an event.

It seems to me that some owners get confused by these "super engines" and assume it cam be achieved in long lived street engines.

Absolutely they are using an engine dyno not a rolling road so, measuring at the fly not at the wheels.
However a good rolling road would measure your transmission losses on a coast down and in theory give you the same flywheel horsepower. In reality of course there will be some variation, especially between different rolling roads.
Some of them will fall into the trap of distorting their figures because it's good for business.

None of them will be 100% accurate, you need to go to the drag strip for that.

I'm in agreement with you. We know what it takes to really get over 300bhp from an Lseries

Yes we do.
Sadly on a forum where Im sure there are people who think you need to lap valves in with "lapping paste" when you are building/rebuilding an engine its hard work to explain anything of the science behind high power engine building.

Goiing back to Mr rebello I see Smileyinside has just uncovered another member of the Rebello Fan Club(NOT)

So its time for bed now as I have a busy day ahead on my rally car project.
Im hoping to get around 200 to 220hp out of it.That will be entrusted to Paul Exon at Exon Race engines.......http://raceengine.co.uk/

Maybe I should just send it over to Dave Rebello to dyno and get it up to 275bhp:rolleyes:

At the risk of taking the thread back on topic some interesting links below:

Love the sound of the 4cyl 1600 510 ...

And an s30 with the Giken head transplant surgery. Yummy!! That sound!!! I think I need a change of underwear ...

If I ever get ruined by a lottery win and own one of these, I'd commission PMAC to fabricate me a see through bonnet with soft elegant lighting below the headers and around the engine bay! What a thing of beauty.

This car reminds me of the Enterprise mid battle firing photon torpedoes ...
