Japfest Silverstone April 7th 2024 - club stand booked

It’s a bit of a shame if it’s a main club get together that you have to get tickets so far in advance.
Obviously, that is totally out of our control based on the nature of Japfest and overall demand. As the biggest Japanese car event in Europe, basically you have to get cracking or you risk missing out when the overall allowance for show cars in the event is reached, which has been happening well before announced dates. I’m sure there’s plenty of consternation on other club forums right now.

On the plus side, we still have Donington Historic as a main gathering, and that will not face the same overall demand; still, with all events, it’s wise to commit early to avoid disappointment.

Update: there was a post on Facebook on the 19th saying show passes were sold out. It also stated that the organisers were going to work with Silverstone to free up additional spaces, and to keep an eye out.

Thanks Ritchie.

I have now followed them on Facebook, if I see any positive updates, I'll post them here..

A lot of people state that there should be a set number of tickets allowed per club to avoid a sea of the same cars taking up all the spaces, eg, 500 MX5s etc.. ;)

Seems like a lot of people are in the same boat so hopefully more tickets will become available.

I don't think it works that way fella - it's not our club that's maxed out it's allocation of space, it's Japfest that's maxed out it's space allocation with Silverstone. The register will be in the exact same position as us. Nobody else will be able to book.

Silverstone as a venue has huge areas for cars. This all seems a bit shortsighted. Anyway no such problems at Donington.

Someone on Facebook suggested there's a new go kart track which has taken up space that used to be car stand areas

As Matt says, there seems to be some debate that ongoing building work on site at Silverstone has led them to reduce allocation to Japfest, leading to demand outstripping supply, despite the fact that Silverstone has more than enough space to manage. Japfest Silverstone this year was affected similarly, although not as badly, suggesting they’ve made further limitations. We will have to see if negotiations in the new year lead to anything.

It’s also not like Donington has been trouble free - the infield roads are still more building site than famous racing circuit!

Crikey! It was not so many years ago that Japfest was held at Castle Combe which is nowhere near the size of Silverstone. Just shows how much it has expanded. I hope they provide more tickets for those that missed out on the early bird.

It completely outgrew Combe; the problem is they are now putting all their eggs in one basket with Silverstone, when they really shouldn’t have dropped the additional Japfest Donington. Maybe Japfest Classic is trying to make accommodation for that, but that has its own issues: a) Goodwood is a long way from most places! b) the October date risks weather issues; c) the cutoff date might be problematic. In fact, I notice that they seem to have moved the age cutoff from 1999 to 2004. The R34 owners must’ve been having a tizzy! :D

Quick update: the deadline for CLUB PASSENGER TICKETS is coming up on Sunday 14th January at midnight. This is the cutoff for discount tickets for passengers additional to the driver arriving in cars with a display pass.

After the deadline expires, passengers will have to pay the full public ticket price of £28 (plus booking fee).

The requisite link for booking can be found on the Japfest Silverstone/Fast Car website on this page:

So I missed out on club tickets (because I can't commit to anything so far in advance)

I'll be on the Autofinesse stand and look forward to checking out the 20 cars on the stand!

All ticket purchasing is online (for print-at-home) - no on-the-gate tickets. Also, see the link - it says that ticketing has been suspended as the main public parking areas are all full, and overflow parking is undergoing a site survey based on waterlogging to see if viable.

You'll need to try booking online - if it will let you as per the above...
