Rob, the beer was fantastic, clearly I had a few more than I could handle, hence the many typos
The pit saves so much time, I've done a clutch on a 350 using axle stands before & it's so awkward. I always worry about them either failing or the car coming off them as you remove, tough bolts & heavy parts of the car.
I know that I should have replaced the seal & normally would. I'm working on the theory of a quick fix just to get me by for a few months before the rebuild where I'll be stripping & replacing nigh on every consumable part.
I have a feeling that theres something broken in the engine as I found a few metallic fragments in the bottom of the sump. Initially thought it might have been part of a piston ring. But done a compression test last week & all was even, plus when the sump was off I turned the engine & inspected the sleeves the best I could, couldn't see any scoring so I'm guessing its come from the top side
