Help i broke my z

Hi Neil any joy with that clutch yet?? Saw a useful tip in a haynes manual yesterday which said when using a pressure assisted blead kit its best to deflate the tyre quite a bit first. I think perhaps that 30 psi was a little extravigent !! , hope I didnt burn too many holes in your overalls. Starting my conversion this weekend (HOPEFULLY) I tried to order a new clutch yesterday but the guy wanted my chassis number which I told him was useless as obviously mines an auto, another hurdle to get over. Still im going ahead regardless as my Daughter is on half term from Friday and going to Wales, so I have two weekends free. Seems like the ideal opportunity to get it done.

Hey Neil any joy with that clutch yet?? I'm having trouble identifying mine, Mr F reckons I may have a turbo gearbox from the manual car. Got to check out some numbers in the morning. Hope it is he says its a very good unit.

All the signs are looking good, the whole clutch/flywheel etc are 10 mm bigger than they should be ( indicating TURBO parts)!!!!

Hi Neil Conversion underway at last! spent all of yesterday fitting the pedals and managed it without the removal of the dash! When I finally got the break pedal assembly out i was horrified to find its identical to the manual one with the exception of the pedal itself, so I could of just undone the bolt that it hinges on and swapped pedals. Clutch pedal as you know was a straight forward bolt on job ( with much cursing over a small linkage pin). So now I have the only auto Z in the the country with a clutch pedal! .Im just waiting for parts now, Mr F managed to identify the correct clutch kit for my mixture of cars (theres a guy who knows his onions) which should arrive on tuesday. Also I spoke to the parts guy "Martin" you recomended who has one turbo prop shaft left and is keeping for me.Taking a trip up there on saturday to get it, so if you can think of anything you need or fancy a trip and assisting with navigation just let me know.Since sevicing the car the auto box is performing really well and im almost sad to lose it, but once the car gets on the strip the manual has to be the way forward.

Hi Doc good on ya

I didnt even look at the brake pedal that closely cos i was given a new one i assumed i had to fit it but what the hell its done now.yes i will come with you on saturday but if you dont mind can i drive because i am a very nervous passanger we can take my truck save fuel for both as i dont pay for it plus we can get more bits in it. let me know. im thinkig of getting a cylinder repair kit for the master cylinder its only 20 quid ish and that should sort the clutch then just the exhaust. repairs on the arches wont be complete until friday cos the guy is busy then i can carry on with the other bits and get it ready for a complete respray

Neil

Sounds good to me Neil, last week I filled my tank (£53) and got just over 200 miles on it. Martins is a 240 mile trip from here so I was expecting a £100 fuel bill on top of the £90 for a prop. How about I get to you at 10 am on saturday (without getting lost)??

Dont think Neil needs any looking after, I probably wouldnt be converting mine if he hadnt done the hard work first.

Back on the road

well after weeks of frustration at not being able to drive my Z its back on the road, the clutch is sorted, speedo now works and what fun it is, its definatley quicker with the manual box in, there are still a few little items that need to be sorted ie, sort out the rattle on the exhaust as it now hits the gearbox rear mount so ill have to do some giggery pokery with it when i get my header, and i should now make it to santa pod, yippeee (fingers crossed) :D :D :D

Big thanks to Dr Shemp for all his help

Good to be back on the road aint it! I found it very frustrating with all the work done and just a rediculously designed clutch system stopping me.
