European Road trip 2023 ( The 3 lakes )

This is a great thread and definitely inspires me to get out more. Looks fantastic and hope you continue to have a great time!

Thankyou Wazza JB 👍
Our last night on Lake Garda before we head for Austria. We had a meal out at the hotel who own the apartment. Very basic ( pasta and meat sauce ) but very nice along with bread that you dip in their self made olive oil and a salad. We are in Italy so it would be rude not to try it.
As I said we travel up into Austria tomorrow with a stop planned at Innsbruck but if I’m in the mood we may go further. I had planned to drive the Stelvio pass but I have been warned that there is some bad weather (thunderstorms) forecast and it can make the pass quite slippy. The other thing is that it would take an extra 3 hours or more in bad weather so I may leave that for a future trip as we will definitely be back down here.
My wife has no idea about the car hotel in Frankfurt which is causing problems as she keeps choosing hotels in the area to stop at. I’ve kept it secret up to now but the next few days will be a test. We are having a bad thunderstorm at the moment and the power is in and out. I met a Dutch chap who is also staying here who has a 1995 Williams Volvo in creamy yellow. It’s a limited edition that was used in the 95/96 European touring cars season. Its got a turbo charged 2.4 ltr engine and It’s mint. I was shocked when he said it’s got 400,000 KM on it !
Photos to follow as there has been a thunderstorm and the tinternet is very slow

Oh man, memories 🥲

Drove back from Venice one day and there was this sheet lightning and everyone was asleep, tired from the day trip. I was amazed at it and it made me think about back in the day; the Romans probably thought the gods were having a fight lol

Makes me appreciate things. I think I'll book a cheap flight somewhere in Italy to go there again soon 👍

Had a big travel day today, we have gone from Lake Garda through the Brenner pass into Austria and onto Germany The pass was hot and the queues were horrendous We are currently just the other side of Ulm We have travelled just over 300 miles today taking us 8 hours.
We have been to a beer festival in the village where we are staying and have been treated like long lost friends by people in the village. As we were walking to the beer garden the village was empty but when we arrived we found out why, they were all there on the beer ! We had sausage salad with cheese and numours beers and finished it off with with a sort of eggnog made in the village. All the beer and food included the bread is made locally. We ended up coming back to the hotel with a carry out of beer and eggnog. I will definitely sleep tonight.

We have arrived in Frankfurt after another two hundred and odd mile trip. I have to say the German Autobahn is fantastic once you get used to the speeds. I was pottering along at 80 and I was passed by every car on the road. Even an old air cooled VW camper had a do at me. I drew the line there and put it into manual and had a little play. The passenger speed limiter kicked in at just under 140 but to be fair that was fast enough for a short burst. I felt the car would have gone quite a bit faster but it didn’t feel super steady at that speed. I felt like the air was getting under the car making it light on the steering. I would have liked to try for 150 but my wife was not happy at all. Right there is trouble ahead for tomorrow. My wife thinks we are booked in this city centre hotel for two nights when in fact it’s only one as we are booked into the car loft hotel near the airport tomorrow night. I now have less than 24 hours to come up with something convincing !
Pictures are.
View from our 23rd floor room 30 mins ago and now.
Some famous German model so I got a snap of her. It would have been a better picture had I got closer but passenger speed limiter kicked in again 😳
Chocolate slabs in a Lindt chocolate shop.
Last pic, straight to the point German advertising.

We arrived at the car hotel at Frankfurt Airport.
To say my wife was not impressed is an understatement !
We are on the 10th floor ( highest one ) with views over the airport where you can watch the planes taking off and landing (Let me know if the you tube link works.) A small saving grace is that the hotel also has a sauna and steam room in with the price so my wife used that while I cleaned my car. I brought the wash mit collapsible bucket and wax,the whole 9 yards 😁
I have also attached some pictures. We are here just for tonight and then we have another 300 plus mile journey to Belgium where we will spend the last 2 days of our holiday before catching the Eurotunnel back to wet Blighty.

What was it about the hotel she was unimpressed with?
The fact that it was at the airport and not really near anything also that we had left a nice hotel in the city centre. The price, at £220 a night it was way over our budget. The saving grace was that she had a sauna and there was a naked 30 year old man in there with her. Evidently German sauna etiquette is naked ! She said everything on him was tight not like me ( when I’m sat on the top step my balls are on the middle step 😆)

Clearly you're not tight if you shell out £220 for a hotel room! 🤣

Well we have arrived at the last stop on our tour.
We are at Ostend for 2 nights ( we arrived yesterday) and we catch the Eurostar tomorrow morning ( Tuesday). On the way here we again used the autobahn and I took the car up to 145 mph. It felt steady this time and would have gone faster but traffic, wife and weather conditions were all against me. I recorded it below.
In the video I put my finger up for the second time after the taxi holds me up. I’m then at 145.
Deb only takes her eyes off her phone when I drop a gear coming up behind the taxi at 130mph to slow to 100 then she’s taking notice of the speed 😆
I know it’s childish stuff but I may not get another chance to travel at that speed legally in a car that’s built to do over 70mph. If you’re watching on your phone it’s better turning sideways 👍

Autobahns are fun! The 370Z is very capable at speed. We've been up 162 (mine has UpRev and so has the 155 limiter removed). But everything happens very quickly then and I didn't stay at that rate for very long. It would have done more.

Dropping back to a gentle 110 felt very sedate after that! I've been cruising around 110 / 220 most days.

Very true Paul, when I dropped back to 100 it felt slowish and when I went back to my 75mph touring speed it felt like I could get out and walk 😁
I’m not a speed merchant anymore to be honest but like the odd blast preferably over twisty roads also not with my wife in. She has been a pretty good sport over the last 2 weeks or so let alone over the last 30 odd years 👍
We travel home tomorrow back up to miserable Burnley but we’ve enjoyed every minute of this holiday. Enjoy yours Paul.

I often find thrashing my 1968 930cc 70bhp Singer Chamois around country lanes at 60mph more fun than trying to drive a more powerful car at higher speeds.

Have a safe trip home. Maybe next time we'll be home and can offer you a stop as you pass (we're only 20mins from the Eurotunnel terminal)
