European Road trip 2023 ( The 3 lakes )

Nice!!

I guess yours is an auto? They're higher geared in top than the manuals (extra gear too) and do quite a lot better on a cruise.

Arrived in Luxembourg about 14-30 and checked into the hotel. We are staying near the airport as parking was free and the hotel was one of the cheaper ones for tonight. All hotel prices have gone up for tonight as Robbie Williams is playing here. All transport in Luxembourg is free so we can just jump on a bus to the centre and spend the evening there. We have covered around 200 miles today so about 600 in all. Weather is very hot. Car has run well knocking out about 31mpg which is great and no engine light today 😎IMG_8220.jpegIMG_8221.jpeg

Yeah me too, I’m not a big fan. Also whilst we were in the centre we saw the German chancellor and his full security detail. It closed part of the centre down for a while. Luxembourg is a lovely place but a little expensive.

Tonight we are here in Giron, it’s a quirky hotel with only 2 rooms. We have had a 9 hour drive covering over 300 miles We arrived too late for evening meal so the owners are making us a salad which will do for tonight with a couple of beers. I’m sat outside listening to the gentle rumble of thunder in the mountains and the odd flash of lightning. Temperatures have exceeded 35 degrees today so the thunderstorm is to be expected. We are not far from our destination for the next few days ( Lake Annecy)
The engine light came on for only the second time this trip as we climbed up the mountain pass at low revs. IMG_8238.pngIMG_8236.jpegIMG_8235.jpegIMG_8229.jpegIMG_8234.jpeg

Arrived in Seynod near Lake Annecy yesterday where we are booked in for two nights. It’s a stones throw to Lake Annecy which we visited today. The temperature here is again in the mid 30,s. We move onto Lake Garda tomorrow via possibly Milan or Switzerland I haven’t made my mind up how to get there yet, weather to go toll free or bite the bullet and go through Milan and the tunnel. Today we hired a peddlo on Lake Annecy.( Last picture you can take the boy out of Burnley and all that business 😆)IMG_8256.jpegIMG_8250.jpegIMG_8248.jpegIMG_8252.jpeg

Another marathon drive today over the alps. We took the toll free route all the way to Turin then joined the toll motorway and we are currently in a hotel just outside Treviglio which is about 30 miles the other side of Milan. Going through Milan was a nightmare because of the traffic jams. Anyway we are about two and a half hours from Lake Garda which we will do tomorrow. Today was one of the highlights of my driving career going over the Alps in a Z. It was tight very narrow in places and steep decents. The car took it all in its stride and was a joy to be in with the roof down, even my wife commented on how well it handled 😳 The engine light made a 3rd appearance of the trip in the heavy traffic of Milan 😡

Arrived at Lake Garda today after a troubled 2 hour trip. Unfortunately I can’t find any 98 octane fuel even on the toll Rd. When I did eventually find a pump they had none left and said we would struggle to find any. Anyway I took the decision to put 20 litres of E5 95 Ron in so it mixed with the quarter of a tank of 102 & 98 I had put in from Luxembourg and France but the engine light came on within 5 mins ! I thought coincidence or fault so I pulled up read the codes and it’s the same fault as before so I cleared it and set off again. Within 10 minutes it was on again so I left it this time and drove to our apartment on lake Garda. Is it safe to run on E5 95 Ron ? If not I’m snookered as I won’t be able to buy any until Austria which is at least 170 miles away. Was the engine light because of the fuel or the heat as it’s hit 38 degrees here while in the traffic ? I’m a little worried now that in the land where they build super cars they don’t seem to sell super fuel !!!!

IMG_8279.jpegOur apartment is very nice so I will assess my options here for the next 4 days before we leave on Thursday morning. If I take it very easy and don’t over rev it could I drive on E5 95 Ron ? IMG_8280.jpeg

It's probably fine if you take it easy but you could try a local version of Halfords for some octane booster?
Exactly what I was going to say, and has remained me to pack some for my upcoming journey.

The other thing is E5 Vs E10. But I'm pretty sure a tank of E10 with an octane booster won't harm. I think the problem is if you run E10 for a longer period.

The fuel here is 95 octane but 5% ethanol, is that slightly better than 95 octane with 10% ethanol for my car ?

Yep. But you really need 98 in the 370Z. I would definitely advise adding some octane booster if you can only get 95.

PANIC OVER !
I met the apartment owners son and he said there is only one place on the lake at the moment that has 98 octane. He put it into my google maps and off I went. It was a 25 min drive each way but worth it. When I got there it was 100 octane so I filled up to the brim to mix it with what was already in. I didn’t mind the €2.45 a litre for a change I was just happy to get some decent fuel. Now I can relax, and here I am doing just that in the lake 😆😎Thanks for your suggestions and help once again 👍IMG_5255.jpeg
