East african safari classic rally '09

Some further shots from yesterday and todays stages

You can really see how the suspension gets tested in these conditions.

OK, damn, the file is in PDF format and is 7mb, max allowed is 5.2mb...any ideas?

Getting back to Z's!!

Top placings were:-
3rd = Perez - well done Laurence!
6th = Alexander (Aus)
11th = Savage (Ken)

It is a shame that the last day report on the website does not open properly - or is it me?

Compared with prior years, the Z's performed quite badly:eek:. Could it be that the competition has wisened up and now have more powerful and reliable:lol:cars? Look at the number of 911's in the top 10? In 2003 and 2005, local ace Rob Collinge was almost untouchable in his Zed. But things have not been the same since then really. What was more inspiring was that Geoff Bell was in top 5 in 1.8 litre Datsun 180b for more than 3/4 of the rally. He was faster than lots of bigger and fmore powerful cars.

I know that for the 2007 event it was Laurence who build the Perez car. However, I am not sure if the strip down and rebuild to 09 spec was done by him as well...where is PMac when needed?

some pics found on the net:driving:

I notice from the Safari website that BTR preparations, aka Tim Ashton, have been given the credit for Steve Perez's 3rd place car. No mention of Star Motorsport:rolleyes:

Exactly my earlier point, Nigel.

Any average Grease Monkey can take a car apart & put it back together again with new bits where required, but the real Engineering skill starts when the whole car is conceived and built in the first place.

Plus, and it is a big plus, the 240z does not have a nice long list of off-the-shelf Rally components ready to be ticked and easily ordered from one of several Suppliers - as, for example, an Escort or 911 has.
Lawrence has designed, Engineered & developed many components for the Z utilising his own talent & expertise ( and at considerable expense ) which many of us have benefited from in the past, so I would think that the allocation of credit for Steve Perez' result should be something like 80% to Lawrence and 20% to BTR.

Now I think about it, even that's a bit generous to Tim Ashton !

PMac is always around! But with my "access all areas " knowledge of Star Motorsport its not usually possible for me to comment or provide information in the public sector.
