EAS 2005 - Pics

Ok, we saw the photos, we read the history, some of us heard how much it cost - WHAT HAPPENED TO LARRY HOLMS' car ? And is it true he don't want to know Datsun no more and will run off in a Porsche :) ?

Did something break ? Did Larry crack ? Did they hit a Benz or an elephant ? What ?
Sean

This is what HATARI wrote iunder the other EA rally thread

"Larry Horn - As far as I am aware they had overheating problems - I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong - cracked or Faulty block? The Car and team performed extremely well on the first two days - the stage times show that. I feel extremely sorry for the team - they had prepared well. But I am afraid it is one of those things - you simply cannot look at every eventuality. Had they not had had that problem I am sure we would have seen another Z in the Top as well. Best of Luck to them for next year, I am sure they will do very well."

Cheers:D

So you know, the Zs are in this months (Feb 06) Top Gear magazine, haven't read it yet but definately two pics of airborn Zs.

Once read I'll see if it was worth scanning, if not I can just scan the pics.

Lost track????

Day 3: This is the Datsun 240 Z of IDewji / I Singh Degun on the first stage of the second day called "KIZIMZUMBWE " near Dar Es Salaam , Tanzania . After the car was repaired by their Service Crew, they get further and they finished the rally. We found them, after we where behind the last competitor, their radio was not working...and handy..you can imagine !? . We had a powerful radio in our car, so we contacted the organisation to ask for help, they got some cold water out of our car...and we got some cold beer at Diani Beach after the finish...it was great !

Fantastic thread and great pictures, thanks for your time and trouble.

Do you have any more "war stories" like finding the car, giving water and being treated to a beer afterwards ? Those little stories bring the event alive to those of us who were not in a position to go.

Await the next Z club magazine, article that incorporates some of the "war stories!" You would need an encyclopaedia to get all the trials and tribulations!!

One for the road.........

Day 2 : Rob Collinge at the border to Tanzania on his way to the Usambara Mountains stages to Dar Es Salaam ...Please notice : on the right side you see the pasport control ..this point was wonderful, we were waiting for our Visa..and suddenly we heard Collinge`s car coming very fast to the border, he stopped only for a short moment, got his Visa..an then bbbbrrrrooooarrrr., and he went away in the dust........!!

Article in the "March" issue of Classic Sports Car Magazine. Half page picture of Robs 260Z and small write up on the Rally. Next page has a short interview with him as well.

I wrote to one of frances' most popular classic car magazines, it appears each week (LVA), asking why they hadn't covered this event - they replied, we can't cover all the events all over the world and we covered this event last year !

Nous avions couvert cette épreuve l'an dernier, pour la première (Une + 2 p couleur), mais n'avons effectivement pas réitéré. LVA ne peut couvrir la totalité de l'actualité mondiale de l'auto ancienne. Bien cordialement, Bruno Leroux

Wow! About the only word in that Letter I undetsood was "Datsun"!! :D

Correct me if I am wrong, but may be there is low interest in the Rally there? If I can recall there was only one French Driver?

Now to More Important news ......

Don't all shoot me if this is wrong .... I am looking at the Kenya Motorsports Calendar for 2006 and guess what?!!!!!!! Yep..... the EASR 2006 has been scheduled during the following dates 23rd Nov to the 1st of DEC 2006!

I also see that EASR have a stand at the Historic Motorsports Show at Stoneleigh this month. So they will be out promoting the event. So we will only know for sure after the show (I will keep you posted) However I still have my reservations about the organizers running this annually. The money that is invloved in entering this event is just too much. But I guess if they get enough entries then who am I to say no?!! BRING IT ON!

Not likely to be more enthusiasm if no-one except us lucky foreigners (who have access to your reportage) gets to hear of it's existence !

240Zs are closely followed here courtesy of the original Monte carlo rallye cars !

Some month ago I received a photo CD from Datsfun. I selected 510 photos from it, because I like to put them on internet. Datsfun (and the rest) are you there and do I have you permission?
