Went along to see whats going on, really good turn out by all the clubs except Z club :( and porsche. weather was nice and warm, small rain shower mid afternoon. There was an original fairlady on the toymota stand......I assume he went along with friends (from Chorley I think) and an orange 260 just as you entered the grounds and me (z32) on the car park.

I know Kieth has alot on his plate at the mo, from what he said at Gawsworth, and to be honest it's easier, certainly for me anyway to find out info on forum rather than either running up to monthly meets or phoning up..... mithering people. what is the point of the club calendar?:conf2:

Kieth has kindly give me a ticket for Tatton :D and He'd gone by the time I remembered Capesthorne.

So does the club have any intention of showing at the 2 day event at Capesthorne at the end of May.

Thanks
Pete

Hardly surprising since no mention was made on the forum beforehand.
Nor the magazine.
Same applies to Tatton Park. I would have liked to attend but no information available for May/June event.

My point exactly......apparently members were asked about todays show......but no one was interested.

Capesthorne is the last weekend in May
Tatton is first weekend in June

IIRC comments were made about show dates in the 2nd to last mag and was to be corrected in the last issue.......never happened.

Hmmm I've a feeling I may get a public stoning for this thread:)

.apparently members were asked about todays show..

Members??? Which members??? If it wasnt posted on the forum or put in the magazine then how can members know about it.

I dont think so mate.
All you have done is bring up for debate an issue which highlights the fact that virtually nobody turned up at a car show.
Looks to me that some local groups are turning themselves into "mini secret society car clubs" with the ethos that says "if you dont come to our secret meetings then we wont tell you where our secret car show is".

I posted the list last year as Keith has no PC .Pete ask Keith for the full list and post it on here , then other group can see them .The list is mainly shows that Andy Greenwood ,two at Tatton Park and there is one down at Stoneleigh .

Right then I've just finished on the phone with Keith, Here is the list for this years Cheshire Plainz.

In Keiths defence he did say he asked around the members (not me by the way) and they weren't interested, but Steve Kemp has a better list ( more National events I think) but I'm sorry to say that if those that know cannot be bothered to say then I'm not asking :) . wonder if the toymota club will let me in with a z. I fail to see the point of spending time and money, either DIY or in a garage restoring and personalizing these great cars and then not show them off to other people, may as well get a ford or vauxhall.

Castle Combe & JAE are well publicised but local events are not so much.
I went to Gawsworth Hall and didn't stay long as some had left by midday. Weather was cold, wet & windy so not good. Tickets for Tatton were available then.
As for the other local (NW) shows - we do need to have a list and a FIRM showing of hands to make the booking worthwhile. Too many times people say yes! only deciding at the last minute to not go. If we want to have these local shows there must be a committment from enough people to make it work.
BTW I am not having a go at anyone in particular, but merely stating what seems to happen.:conf2:

If you dont turn up to meeting how will you know when the show are !!
or pick up tickets !! support your local group

And none are more secretive than the 'Middle of Nowhere Group', or MONGZ to use the colloquialism. We're so secret we don't even tell each other we exist!! ;)

I'm surprised to hear the weather at Gawsworth was rough, my suntan has come on a treat since leaving Macclesfield for the flatter parts of Cambridgeshire :D

Cheers,
Rob

RSJ.....quite agree mate, may be a list should be posted at the turn of the year etc.By the way people I don't blame keith at all.....but the larger NW membership.

Datsun Dave................It's not always possible for people to attend meetings and Keith doesn't come online very often. Just because I've not attended meetings doesn't mean I don't support the local group...quite the opposite and I don't have a problem having to travel to collect tickets.

Glad I am in the MONGZ local group with Black Bug -- we have little to no expectations set buy local group organisers so never get disappointed.
By the way Black Bug, the Trappist monk branch of MONGZ are doing a Rutland Z show, but as they are sworn to silence we will never know when or where its going to be held, how many turn up or will they do another one next year.

Joking aside, for goodness sake, can the local group organisers please use the magazine section entitled LOCAL GROUP REPORTS (kind of obvious really) or News Views And Chit Chat to advertise and report back on events, out of the entire UK I only get regular reports from one or two areas and yet clearly things are going on.

A suggestion I made a few years ago (about 20 in fact:rolleyes:) is that a local group should produce a newsletter for its members. That way they are all kept in touch with local and national events, plus snippets from the web can be included for those non-IT types.
Obviously this is a terrible idea as it has never caught on....:)

This is not intended to knock at anybody but it would probably be a good idea when a member joins for the membership sec to inform the new member of his local group leader and similarly to inform the LGL of the new member.
Also if you as a member know of an event in your area, post it up or tell your LGL or do both. Don't wait for someone else all the time.

Apathy Rules KO

Apathy certainly DOES rule!!
This forum is probably the best way to spread the word but going to shows is only part of the Club Scene. I have been a committee member of a club in the past and all the work invariably falls on the few and solid support seems to dwindle the closer any committment is required.
The organising is required not only to advise members of the show but to make sure the Club stand space is booked, along with any other arrangements that may be required.
Keith has done this job - IMHO  - very well for some time and the shows I attended last year were all fine. Any organiser/coordinator is faced with the apathy of the masses, many of whom, dont seem to realise that committment is required to sustain both the credibility of the Club at these venues (to justify the requested space at the next show) and with the membership as a whole.
No! I dont want any Club responsibilities, other than to give my committment to attending the events, whenever possible. How about others?:conf2:

see my post 6/3/06......2006 events.

quote
what events are the Plainz group attending this year:)

tatton park..2/3 june and 19/20 august
NW historic- southport....22/23 july
chatsworth house
cholmondlsey
etc..etc

just wondering cause I still haven't made it to a meet yet. I would have thought that the events list would be known by now

Pete

datsun dave replyed ......yes all this and more

so don't come on forum telling me to support local meets etc........I've already asked. why don't those who attend the group meetings post on forum regarding meets etc.

Rob....I know how frustrating organising meets can be, thats why I stepped down from a similar roll in a previous club.Yeh I went to the local events last year and had a really good time......just seems a shame that this year it's all gone to Rat poo and as stated I feel it's not the fault of the local group organiser but the larger membership, who as you said Rob are yes one minute and no the next
