Cars of UK National Championships and FIA Competitions

There seems to be a lot of racing activities with DATSUN Z in UK. I´m surprised and delighted, too.
At my place, Germany, the DATSUN Z as a racing car is nearly completely unknown. We are knowing the Ralley Cars and the SCCA. Least of all are knowing that the Z participated in LE MANS in 1975 and 76. Also Big Sam is known as a National Championship racer of UK.
So the following questions are interesting for the German fans.
Which racing series are relevant in the UK for Datsun at the moment? What about the regulations and the allowed equipment of the cars?
At which racing FIA-series Datsun Z had taken part, apart from LE MANS and the Dutch Championship (ben240´s group 5 car)?

There are some beautiful cars in the gallery. Unfortunately there is no description of the racing-series they are belonging to.

The car in the centre thumbnail is mine and currently competes in Hillclimbs and Sprints. These are timed events with cars run singly against the clock competing against other cars of a similar specification. The car was previously owned by Dave Jarman and ran in Modsports. As you can see it is a close replica of the Bob Sharp race car from the States. Prior to its conversion to its current format it was a class winning car in HSCC series in standard trim. The car in the left thumbnail was also built by Dave Jarman to a similar spec to my car. The car in the right thumbnail I believe is Bens Janspeed 240Z in a previous guise, but not certain. I'm sure Ben will correct me if I'm wrong.Regards.Ken...

The first two mere built to compete in the British Mod-sports championships - if you look at the banner - oh, where's it gone ? at the top right of this page.....www.djroadandrace.com

I think Ben can help with the last photo !

hi there. yes the last photo is my car when it was sold from fourways to a guy who wanted to drive it on the roads but still compete in some races (sean does that make it a road car or race car. Please dont answer that in this topic m8 just dragging up old threads hohohohohohoho)
I would be interested to know where you found the photo. regards ben

Hy guys,
more and more informations are coming together. I love it and I´m very pleased.
at the moment my oppinion is still confirmed. There are a lot of racing events and series due to historical reasons in the UK, and nearly none track activities under FIA rules outside the UK, aside from the activities in Le Mans.
Were there any cars for track race except the two Le Mans-cars. There was posted, that there were some French guys racing. SOME for one car each year (1775 and 1976)??? Or were some more Z competing in Le Mans and other races and not only the cars of Hans Schuller?

speedshot,
As I've mentioned before many times - the '75 and '76 Le Mans cars were the same car........

Both times the lead driver and main entrant was Andre Haller. He just had different team names and sponsors for the two different races. Hans Schuller was involved ( obviously ) but the car 'belonged to' and was entered by Haller. I've also mentioned that this car was an ex-Works circuit racing car - built originally to race in Japan by Nissan and then taken to South Africa to be used alongside another Works car ( which was a Gr.5 version ) in the 1973 Springbok Series.

I see you asking about a lot of countries here, but not Japan. Why not?

Yes Albrecht, I have recognized in your earlier postes, that the cars competed in Le Mans 75 and 76 are the same car.
Unlucky phrased. Sorry.
I´m not asking about Japan, cause I think there were only national race series and I´m aiming FIA accepted series on track.
Would be good to find out more about a possible Z at Spa.

There were many different race series and classes in Japan during the 1969~1979 period, in which many types of S30-series Z cars participated. Many of these races were run under full international standard rules covered by JAF and the FIA, and the race classes and homologated car specs were very relevant to your search for information. You would be making a big mistake to ignore them.

Indeed ( and I have been trying to get this point across ) the '75 & '76 Le Mans car that you are interested in was an ex-Works Group 4 circuit race car from Japan. It was raced at Le Mans in almost exactly the same spec as it was raced in Japan and South Africa.......

Regarding S30-series Z cars that raced at Spa ( and the Nurburgring, and Kyalami, and the British tracks, and many other places ) you need to be looking for the name of Mr Rob Grant. He is a great unsung hero whose name and achievements have been completely overshadowed by others who arguably achieved less. He even tried to qualify for Le Mans in what was - effectively - an Ex-Works rally car. You need to research his name, and look at the 1971 / 1972 / 1973 period.

Yeah Albrecht, you are right! Directly I was able to find additional advices in the net.
Thanks and regards,
Joris
