I have spent the whole day working on the 280, firstly had a look at the alternator not charging and found the two fuse able links mounted on the right inner wing all corroded up and the links in very poor state was at 12.7 volts when started but a bit of cleaning and I went up to 13.6 volt charge rate. It’s amazing how much crisper the injection system works with a good charge rate. During the road test I felt the car grabbing when slowing down so I put it back on the ramp and found front brakes locked on due to both calipers sticking on when hot. Have to get some new calipers I’d guess as they look Original to me.
While it was in the air I noticed the rear halfshafts looked loose and to my shock one of the 14mm bolts was missing and all the others where loose on both sides, but scary as if that fell out the car would have a big accident!!
I checked all the bolts I could find and found a few more loose ones here and there. Not best pleased with the guy who put her together.
Lastly I’ve fitted an new radiator as the old one was badly damaged, after speaking to FourWays engineering I fitted a Misimoto radiator, thermostat and silicone hoses really impressed with the quality of this and only need a small mod to fit.
Once brakes are fixed it’s off for a long drive, can’t wait.
