Newbie wanting a Z :)

Robs advice is sound.
It costs the same to restore a 2+2 as a 2 seater let's say 10 to 15 grand. Once complete the 2 seater will be worth twice as much, fact.
Nothing wrong with 2+2's but if you don't need the extra seats it doesn't make sense to purchase one just because it's cheaper to buy in the first place.

I think the twice the price is an exageration!
I think there are more 2+2s that have been neglected in the UK which inpacts on the value.
I would say a 50% increase over a 2+2 is far more realistic than 100%

I would also add that a 2+2 is probably more difficult to restore due to lack of panels etc.
The UK market takes exception to the 2+2 in Australia for example the 2+2 is far more common and its value is pretty close to a 2 seater in the same condition.

I have done a deal on the black 260z currently on ebay hopefully be in my possession end of week

Can't wait now :D

Will be collecting it on Sunday :) I think I have made the right decision on this.

Is there anything in particular I should be looking out for ? as will be going over it when I get there to make sure its as the owner had described it.

Will update with pics once in my possession.

Is it the 2+2 in Satin black.
If so check for rust every where especially in foot wells and the rear arches, lower rear valances, chassis rails (rear dog legs) especially under the battery, really everywhere near the bottom of the car, bottoms of doors etc wings etc.
Is thats mold on the drivers wheel:eek: its been left in the damp for a while so expect to find rust.
It looks fairly complete though, but expect to pay some money to get it nice, and dump the body kit in my opinion.

Good luck

a project don't mind if it needs some work but defo don't want one were I will have to be sweeping up rust every time I touch it Lol

The statement above and the car you are going to look at don't add up in my humble opinion. If I were looking now for what you describe above I would have thought £10000 would put you in the ball park. Ten years ago these might have been a cheap classis NOT! anymore.

I will be going over the car properly so will keep all the above in mind ;)
The kit will be removed as its not to my liking, Will be on the look out for the chrome bumpers and front valance/spoiler.

Hopefully have some pictures for you guys on Sunday.

I totally agree with what your saying, I don't expect the 260 to be rust free I'm sure there will be some rust hiding underneath it somewhere lol, I just don't want a complete rust bucket,

Will let you all know how it turns out on Sunday and hopefully have some pictures for you lot :)

Hi Datsun Z,

my first Z car turns up on monday from the states, can't wait to see what i've bought! Good luck with your purchase! I love cars with patina!

Gary

Good luck - really hope it works out for you. But always remember - with classic cars, you get what you pay for . . .

7.5 hour journey later arrived home without the 260 :(

Sadly had to walk away as the 260 was a little worse than expected, owner had told me there is some rust creeping up on arches and some on inner wing otherwise its in good condition and can even be driven away Lol,

Here is what I spotted

roof rusting on rear corner of folding roof,
O/S C pillar rusting through
door shut/sills rusting pretty bad and previous bodge up repairs
front panel rusting away
petrol flap area rusy
boot lid rusty
doors rusty (drivers side skin has almost come away from frame top front)
bonnet rusting away on edges
Inside floors all wet
windscreen rubber seal incorrectly fitted
Although I was told can be driven away the 260 refused to start :smash:

For the price we had agreed it was not worth it and owner wasn't going to budge even though he never told me about all the rust issues.

Not going to give up so easily :)

Welcome to the world of Datsuns! Shame about the long Journey but good experience.
Look even closer at the next one if there are no outward signs of rust. Good luck.

Hi there
Glad you didn't buy it, It took me 3 years to find mine take your time and save some money whilst looking, it will be worth it in the end, seems you have had some good advise already and you walked away  Happy hunting!!!
