Can anyone confirm that the Zamak4 (asian markets covers a lot)alloy was actually used on the early datsun emblems that are being discussed here.I know it doesnt need to be this exact alloy.Apologies for the wiki link and the thread bombardment, really curious as may get round to making my own.

Yes, 'Zamak' ( "Mazak" / "pot metal" ) would be the correct alloy I think. The earliest ( domestic ) solid unvented type 'Z' and ( export ) '240Z' emblems were solid metal, painted and chromed. Later replacements were injection moulded plastic, I believe.

All the vented type 'Z' emblems are - as far as I'm aware - cast metal, chromed and painted.

All i know for a FACT is the two left badges i have (same as the ones in post 77 link)can be fitted either side without the letter Z being turned upside down and the same applies swapping about the correct L/R badges i have now, as for terminology,,,,please!,,, im not writing a reference book. Also im not saying fitting two lefts is correct just that again the Z stays in the same orientation and can be fitted either side without being upside down. These cannot be fitted upside down as stated over and over they are an in an isosceles pattern same as on the body panel.Have a bottle of whisky and triple check fit with a hammer. Not disagreeing with the two horizontals on the Z im trying to convey that the two triangles formed in the Z above and below the slash are different sizes and that is how i quickly spot the correct way up.Could all be explained in seconds in person if attempts over the net explanations were not getting across to well.
