Can you explain the RA codes please?

These are Department of Transport codes for the vehicle model categories as perceived by them and not, in some cases, corresponding to what we would have set up. As a consequence they make no distinction between coupe and 2+2 280ZX and there are no categories for coupe Z31 or coupe Z32 or Z32 NA of any description...

R2009 = 240Z
R2034 = 260Z
R2035 = 260Z 2+2
R2113 = 280ZX (I assume '79/'81 series manual)
R2114 = 280ZX auto ('79/'81 series)
RA035 = 280ZX 2+2 targa (you might see another problem here - do these include the early targa or only the '81/'83 series?)
RA036 = 280ZX 2+2 targa auto (as above)
Z31 - see previous post
RA183 = 300ZX turbo (Z32 models)
RA184 = 300ZX turbo auto (Z32 models)
RA384 = 350Z

Code for 370Z unknown at this point in time...

You can see that the categories (which were based around UK cars) now throw the data into confusion with the influx of import variants and the non-recognition of the 280ZX coupe, even though it was an official UK model '79 to '81.

You can see why DVLA mistakes creep into registration documents.

From the survey data received January 2006 (taken Sept 2005), Z31s showed the following:

RA057 2+2 manual 515 licenced; 207 SORN
RA058 2+2 auto 173 licenced; 137 SORN
RA059 2+2 turbo 125 licenced; 89 SORN
RA060 2+2 turbo auto 1 licenced; 0 SORN (yes these do exist - there are now at least 2 plus one 2 seater turbo auto...200ZR autos probably added in here too.

No category for 2 seater models, either in Z31 or Z32 data.

I find it hard to believe that these numbers (possibly propped up by a few misplaced Z32s) would have dropped to below 100 in just a few years...I'd ask for a recount or a refund!

:rolleyes: My bad there Mr F ! it was 173 that I had back,,didnt read it properly :eek: :cheers:

Although I am sure the information has been posted before, could we have the most up to date figures for remaining 260Z 2-seaters and 2+2 please. Just so nobody gets left out.

Makes you wonder where they all hide. :unsure:

Invariably they hide in non-weather proof sheds where they become a more expensive resto every day:lol:

Does anyone other than Charlie Boy live near me in oxford? Haven't seen that orange 240 again.

Here's a spotting for you, while i was picking my green 240Z last year a restored and mint looking 240/260Z drove past. I was in a town/village near Packington at the top of the M42/A42. It was dark blue i think. Like I said, it looked mint!

Any ideas?

richard smith is not a million miles away but he dosn't come on here his son does though now and again

Mine's a newly licensed 240Z, the DVLA say not licensed or SORN for ages. Restored as much as possible to original condition except for Minilites and triple Webers and now driving around Buckinghamshire. Hope to see some of you out there!

Very nice indeed, and a lovely colour too. :thumbs:

Get some more photos up though; we're a nosey bunch, we want to see the engine and interior too. ;)

Oh, and if you can, get along to Zedfest later in the year. It's a great event, and it'll be good to meet another Zed owner and see their car.

Spotted a light blue 260z (T reg) that looked very rusty (I think it was on ebay very recently?) - saw it yesterday at about 6pm on a trailer behind a 54 plate Mitsubishi Animal in a pub car park just outside Chester.
Does it now (or did it) belong to someone on here?

Hi again chaps, I've been in Catterick with a Med Regt and my friend said that a 240Z drove past him near Richmond? He said it was mint! It was within the last few days? Anyone live in that area?

That looks like the colour I want mine done in :eek:
I'm in Aylesbury so you're not far from me

You got any more pics :D

I have never seen any 280zx's on the road other than at club events. I have been using mine a fair amount in and around Berkshire recently, no-one spotted us then?
