Z Club Drag Race Challenge 2003

Sadly the first round of the Z Club Drag Race Challenge at Santa Pod on Sunday (18th May) was subject to a rain-off. The crew at the Pod worked valiantly throughout the dry periods to prep the track, but every time an engine started on the line, the heavens opened again. God obviously hates drag racers and we will all burn in hell - looking forward to some warmer meetings down there! Thanks to all who turned up and hope it won't put you off returning - attendance points scored by everyone.

Please note that Round 2 is at Santa Pod again on Saturday 31st May NOT at Avon Park as printed in the events diary in the magazine. The track should be in excellent condition following the Main Event weekend on 24th/25tth/26th. Rain-off tickets are valid for entry to this meet.

When will the season start again next year? I'd be up for coming then... around May?

It was hard enough getting th edates early enough for this year - don't start me on next year yet! Eight rounds left this year (inc. Scotland) - you could have the car built by the end of the summer if you worked hard.

To save the rude replies: "Ha Mike! You can talk - I bet you haven't done more than a couple of weekends work on that supercharged 280ZX of yours this year!" You've heard of autoresponders? This is an autoslagger......

A supercharged 280zx Mike? It's amazing what I don't know. I kinda imagined you'd have more than just the one or two cars, but I didn't know about that one. Any chance of having a peek sometime or is it embargoed until complete?
Also is it near or at MJP if I come up and have a look at your 280 &nbsp;bits for sale one weekend? It's past time I came up to see you anyway.... &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

All 280 owners are welcome to come and rummage through the (largely uncatalogued) 280ZX parts now taking up the space of three project cars.....

Of course you can have a look at the 280 - bring a duster to remove the cobwebs; I think its still in there somewhere.......

If anyone's going to the first Scottish round at Crail next weekend (22nd June) could you let me know so that I've got some idea of the numbers. (or will it just be me&#33<img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>

Yeh, we'll come up and have a look.  Not planning to put the car on the track though.   <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':0'>

But I'm expecting the feedback on how well the new performance mods are working. And how are you going to assess future improvements without the baseline of an early season drag run? Get out there and do it!

Car is improving, managing just over the 9 sec mark with passengers.  Is this good or bad?  Much quicker than it was when we got it.  Next step of improvements coming soon.   <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>

Is that a 9 second quarter (f. good) or just the 0-60mph time (quite good - std. 2 seater tested at 10.4 to 60)?

wish it was the quarter but have to be honest and say 0-60.  what is average for 2+2 auto  <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Autocar tested a 2+2 auto 280ZX at 11.3 seconds 0-60mph in October 1979. '82/'83 cars have a little more horsepower, so might squeeze a 10.99........?

The owner of the lovely blue 2 seater featured on the cover of Autumn 2001 Z Club mag got down to 15.4 second quarters with persistent and meticulous tuning plus the usual big throat throttle body, induction kit, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, exhaust header and system. Next step would have been head and cam, but the car was stolen in Glasgow and gutted by fire. It is an ex-ZX, it has ceased to be, it has shuffled off this mortal coil.......
