Would Nissan make new body panels

Seeing that recent ad in the cars for sale section made me think, would nissan make new body panels for old Z's?

I know when my brother was restoring his 1966 Honda S800 the honda club would get enough members wanting panels or parts together and ask honda to make them. He replace every panel including the windscreen this way.

Has anyone ever asked them?

I think we're the wrong country to do it tbh.

I'd have thought this has been done before, either by Japan or the states. Now either Nissan are no help or the tooling is long since gone.

Keep chatting at work about making tooling, I know it's incredible money (it cost Ford like $10m to make tooling for some 100th anniversary model Ts), but how much can there be to it? Massive press and male and female parts?? Ignorance is bliss maybe :)

Anyway these days why not just cast a wing and start making carbon fibre equivalents? No rust, yippee! :D

Loss of tooling is the key problem - if it were possible to remake everything easily then it would have been done for the USA 240Z revival project. Instead, they were scouring the world for obsolete panels to make that work. Some re-tooling took place, and we undoubtedly have benefitted from a fanstastic long term outlook with respect to Nissan's continued supply of parts. However, when things don't get bought, the tools are scrapped. You may think everyone would buy new inner flitches and rear panels, but the reality of the UK market is that many owners don't even buy what is available. No sales = loss of products from the menu...

A good idea but I think there will be other problems too which are to handle before.
What would be the minimum size of the order by Nissan? 10? 100?
Who will store the parts?
Who will finanz all the stuff before?

Maybe it is a chance of connection Order between many clubs.
:conf2:
