Warning lights

I have a 1982 280ZX and wonder how to turn off the alarms. The exhaust gas sensor warninglamp is always on. I have inspected it as described in the service manual and the inspection light is operating as described.
But what do I do next?

Another problem is the warning display. It is always fully lighted. What may be the cause of this and how do I fix it?

No exhaust gas sensors on U.K. cars. What system is shown as at fault on the warning light test? If battery level (usually is), then connect the lead of the battery level sensor to the positive terminal of your battery. Most modern batteries don't seem to have old-fashioned screw-in caps any more and the sensor is left dangling or the wire left hanging.
Warnings on lamps even when all are apparently good may mean that one bulb in the system is the wrong wattage rating (the test unit does a total check sum on the wattage of all bulbs in the system being tested).

The car was bought in the US. And the exhaust gas sensor test indicates that the sensor is OK, but the lamp is still on.

In the warning display it does not show any system at all. The whole display is red.

When you press the check button alongside the display it should cycle through the systems tested and found to be at fault, e.g. if a stop light bulb is out, then the display will show the STOP symbol then revert to the all red display.

On a U.K. car the following systems are monitored: stop lamp bulbs, headlamp bulbs, tail light bulbs, washer fluid level, battery electrolyte level. On cars with radiator reservoir tank, the level in this is monitored (not U.K. cars). A fault in any of these systems will leave the red display on.
