Vibration

Got a 82 non turbo and for the past month have been having real bad problems with vibration. ive had the card for 5 years and it had been doing it some. what happens is when i go about 60 mph it will vibrate VERY bad. but if i accelerate to about 70 it kinda stops. any ideas?

Is vibration at front or rear?

Bad vibration (through steering wheel) at around 65-70 and smoothing out after 70-75 would indicate possible track issues (mis-alignment of front wheels) or wheel balance.

I would check these first.

Thanx. hard to say where its coming from. pretty set on it coming from the back but occasionally it sounds like the front. what happens is i will get up to say around 62 - 63 MPH then it will begin the heavy vibration. I get to 70 it is not as heavy but is still vibrating bad. but when i let off the gas it gets back it will be rough again. so if im in an area where the range is 60 - 70 MPH then it goes from heavy to medium but also it sounds like back to front. so could it be wheel bearings or rear diff? i will definitely check the alignment but do i need to check for other things as well?

thanx a lot. i took it to a mechanic this morning and while waiting for him to take it down the street for a test run, behind the shop was another shop where i saw what looked to be an 80 - 81 280. so i walked around to get a closer look and spoke to the owner. i told him what was goin on and he said something about the driveshaft but he was saying it could be a bearing or something like that, cant remember. but the mechanic will give me a call sometime today to let me know what they find. once again thanx

Well turns out it was the driveshaft. said that the bolts were loose and there was one that had come out. how that happend i dont know but im glad that it is back! haven't driven it yet but im going to after work. i will post and let u guys know the results.
