a replacement p90 unit will be arriving shortly to replace my knackered unit.

wot all mods can i carry out on this to improve performance?

i don't want an out and out racer, just a few wee tweaks to improve the grin on my face when i come up against some numbnut in his mummy's saxo!!!! hehehe:D

i have just joined this club, think its excellent to meet and chat with other z enthusiasts. I have yet to see any other z's over here in northern ireland, r there any other club members from ireland?? if so get in touch.

thanx in advance, irishzlad

Hmmm, I'm sure there is too! When you say a replacement unit are you talking a bare head, head valves and cam or full engine? If it's a head off experience then you should probably look at getting a valve job and some light porting of the intake and exhaust paths. Best bet would be a slightly hotter cam though. That can get a bit pricey though as you'll need new rockers and lash pads to prevent premature cam wear, plus all the time to set it up properly and time the cam. Maybe something as simple as a new filter, K&N type, would be enough to help you out.

I think probably the best route though is to raise a 2 fingered salute to and little prat in his lax power banger as he struggles to part the air with all his extra air dams and spoilers whilst you continue to serenely cruise on :D

Cheers,
Rob

thanx for the reply Rob, very good advice regarding the young prats!!! lol

its a complete engine i'm getting, which is running well, so should i install it and then make any improvements as i go along?

wot about a new exhaust set up, 6branch thingy??

would that and a good air filter make any real difference to performance??

Thanx
Michael:confused:

sorry for all the questions folks, its just i'm gettin told wot to do with the engine away from the club, but i would rather take advice from peeps who have 'been there and done it'

Right then, if it's a full engine you won't want to be messing around taking the head off to port it. You could still go for a cam though. It's a bit debatable (like my spelling) whether a 6-2-1 type manifold will make much difference on an otherwise standard engine but given the fact you're doing a full swap it will make like a bit easier fitting it now rather than later. It should in theory help the engine breath a little better as would the filter plus it should sound a bit better :D

Another thing to think about as an outside possibility is a more powerful coil to give a stronger spark and therefore better combustion. It's at this point than my knowledge on coils dries up and I hope someone with a few more working brain cells than me comes along and either comfirms or denies my crackpot schemes ;)

Cheers,
Rob

P90A F54 block

Hi I run a L28 F54 engine with flat top pistons and a P90a head which I have had skimmed 40 thou/1mm I have lightly ported it to take off the horrible casting marks and match the manifolds you'd be supprised how different the head and inlet manifold are
I have fitted a stage 2 cam and compertion retainers and new rockers etc I run triple webers and at the moment a 6 into 2and then down into a 3inch collector manifold mated to a 21/2 inch system and out the back to a Savage tunable rear box. I can say these mods work well and it puts out well over 200bhp at the wheels. If I were you and you're not going to be taking the head off I would fit a six branch Manifold and 2 to 2 1/2 inch system and improve the airflow into the engine KN filters etc or better still go with 2inch SU carbs or run triple Webers like I do you'll love the Noise, you've got the right engine now all you have to do is unlock the Power hope this helps good luck with you're mods and lets blow the saxo suad off the road

Nick..:)

thanx nick and rob

so, shopping list as follows;

exhaust header, k&n filter, new coil, leads

cam etc to follow at later date

now- wot else should i do maintenance wise to the 'new' unit b4 fitting it??(oil pump? water pump?) I wanna put in 'proper' oil & temp gauges (non electrical), should this be done b4 fitting the engine?, or should i fit the engine and get her up and running first???

also, are there really good water hoses available as i am pissed off replacing water pipes!!:(
