Traction control

Has anyone thought about fitting a traction control system to an early Z?

I was looking at the Racelogic system and as far as I can tell it can be fitted to any car that has efi. The system works by monitoring the speed of all four wheels using the ABS system or specially fitted sensors.

As soon as wheel spin is detected the engine power is reduced, by cutting a single injector pulse or a spark, until grip is resumed.

Will be interesting to hear peoples views on this.

George, the best and cheapest traction control system is to take your foot off the gas until the wheels stop spinning and then re apply gas! Adrian

Very true Adrian :D but some of us have a lead foot! I can't see me using it, unless I win the lottery, but it seems interesting as they state it will improve 1/4 mile times.

Only if you are an absolute idiot with no capacity for learning how to control a motor car for yourself...

The 300ZX I have here for sale at the moment has Racelogic traction control and the owner found he had to turn it down to about a 2% level before it stopped increasing his elapsed times at the strip. Another customer with a Supra saw a difference of a whole second between traction control on vs traction control off - and I'm leaving you to guess which situation was the one second improvement!

As a safety device for everyday driving when you don't feel the need to concentrate on what you are doing and as a safety valve on highly tuned automatic equipped turbo cars, then worthwhile. Otherwise, enjoy the car for what it is and turn it off. Some OEM systems can be very intrusive too - at least the Racelogic system has some control over the effect.
