Toyota Brake Mod?

As I want to upgrade my front Brakes I know that the Toyota Hilux 4x4 calipers fit but which year model do they have to come from?
Also does anyone know of any for sale, and as I am upgrading my calipers would it be a good time to fit a 280zx master cylinder as it is a bigger bore and so would displace more fluid to the calipers or would this lock up the front wheels too much any advice would be great, Thanks
Nick

Check out the contents of magazine back issues for articles on fitting Toyota calipers - John Foreman, ex-Chairman wrote a couple of articles and has done the work on his own car (turbo 240Z with NOS).

There are two types of 280ZX master cylinder ('79-'81 and '82-'83 series, ie. pre and post facelift). The latter type is the biggest bore and ideal for big brakes / discs all round, but the flange configuration is rotated 90 degrees from the Z and early ZX type. It will still fit, but requires "notching" to clear the original servo studs and will then slip over the studs used to hold the spacer plate onto the servo. Don't forget to check the servo push-rod length to match it to the new master cylinder. If no rear discs, then ideally the return valve in the outlet boss should be changed to the drum brake type.

The later cylinder is easily identified as it has a single reservoir which bridges the front and rear piston inlets and has a single, plastic filler cap.

The model you need is the LN65 4x4 Hilux.

Remove dust shield, bolt on, bend rigid line, bleed, drive.

Yup, it's that simple.

You'll find that article in the Autumn 1996 edition, page 25.

Make sure they are from a non vented disc Hi Lux.
I think in this country you are looking at early to mid 80's registrations.
Best sources are usually 4x4 specialist breakers.
Happy hunting.

Just a post to say, I've carried out my 4 pot caliper upgrade and fitted braided hoses front and rear. The pedal feels firmer but i havent driven it yet as it's chucking it down outside so can't wait to drive her and see how she stops. I found the calipers at a breakers up North and paid £87.50 including postage not bad eh.
