Having had the original VIN plate 'stolen' from my own car whilst undergoing light restoration I have managed to find a source for a replacement plate. Perhaps helpful to others (for whatever reason) I found 'Datskool' on the AU 'Ebay' site. They can provide a high quality replacement plate at a cost of around £25.00 incl. shipping (about 10 days). They offer to punch-stamp the engine/car numbers at no further cost before posting.
I am delighted with the result I have (even pre-drilled at the corner fixings). To the perfectionist the 'stamping' is perhaps not quite as crisp as the original item.
