Two 240Z's are entered for the Trackrod Rally on October 7th.

Based in Pickering in Yorkshire and largely run in the Dalby Forest complex just North of there, this is the penultimate round of the British Historic Championship.

Dominic Frattaroli is at 304 with his new car and we are 330.

There are 33 Category 2 entries (Post Historics 1968 - 1974) with 9 in our class, the other 7 being 911's.

Schedule and other info is to be found on rallyyorkshire.co.uk

Not many Historic entries yet for the last round of the Championship, the Somerset Stages on October 28th based in Minehead. Good gravel stages on the edge of Exmoor and 4 runs (I think) up the Porlock Toll Road. Debby & I plan to enter if the car survives the Trackrod OK but funds are short to say the least!

Info is on somersetstagesrally.com

Entries in the 2wd Modern Rally include a Datsun Violet GT and a Nissan 240RS. The guys in the 240RS were 2nd last year, if I remember correctly. We were marshalling last year.

Best of luck enjoy Dalby, I did it late 80's in a 1300 Mk1 Astra, I remeber the straights were that long  the little old engine near cried enough before we'd reached the next bend.

Watch out for deer as club mates of mine wrote a cossy off with a handsome stag that just got up, shook and buggered off back into the woods:eek:

Thanks, Nigel,

This will be our 5th Trackrod. We have never seen a deer but have hit a couple of pheasants! It is amazing how much damage they can do at speed!

Longest straight was over 1km last year although they will often put in chicanes to keep the average speeds down within the MSA requirements for the bogey time.

Cheers

If you do go to the event, please try and get some pictures and details of these 2 great machines, especially the Violet GT.

If we do not compete, we shall go down and marshal so I will try to get some pics.

I might have a photo of the 240RS from last year.

Yes that clicks with the old grey matter I do recall the use of some rather large round bales on some frighteningly long 'con rod' straights.

My next viewing session will be the Cambrian 3rd 4th November, I've got a static van on the edge of Clocaenog and Alwen, perfect with a mountain bike.

Trackrod Rally

We finished 21st Post Historic out of 35, 8th in the class as, unusually, none of the Porsches dropped out and all were fast! (4 in the top 5 OA!)

Dominic recorded times on all the stages in his new car, but not up to his usual standard. He eventually stopped on the final road section with a seized diff, I believe.

The weather was perfect and the stages had dried out well considering how wet it had been.

Although not shown on the website, the results of the Historic Cup are divided into three categories in line with the MSA definitions of Historic cars:-

Category 1 - up to 1967 (formerly known as "Historic") you can see these from the classes B1 - B5

Category 2 - 1968 - 1974 (formerly known as "Post Historic") classes C1 - C5

Category 3 - 1975 - 1981 (formerly known as "Classic") classes D1 - D5

In the 3 categories there were a total of 70 entries, 35 in Category 2. If I remember correctly, we were 38th fastest of the whole Historic Cup entrants, 21st in Category 2.

Who cares? We had fun!

Hugh

I do because I put the results on my webpage!!! No hard feelings I hope…..

OK!

I hope that you understand how the system works now! It is quite complicated and sometimes the event organisers cannot cope with it!

Strangely, on the Trackrod, the results were given to us divided into the different categories, but when they appeared on the website they were all mixed together again!:conf2:

We are now going to enter the Somerset Stages which is on October 28th. We just need to change the windscreen which got broken when we caught an ailing Escort on the last stage. It was a heated one, of course!

Yes, we were 37th out of 70 starters in total (I think 53 finished) and 21st of the 35 Category 2 cars (I think 25 finished). 8th in class from 9 starters, beaten by 7 Porsche 911's which are now too reliable! I think 6 of the 7 are now running 3 litre engines, one is a 2.7 litre.
