oil grades?!

...heres an easy one (then why dont i already know!)......what do the grades mean re: oil?....is 14/40 THICKER than say, 5w/30 ??....and wot does the 'W' mean?

Hey Si, how ya doin?

The numbers refer to grades of oil, more specifically, the viscosity so yes the higher the numbers, the more viscous the oil is at temperature...it's all here

yeah two of em went and snuffed it!!.....i make a lot of jokes about those two on stage if theyre a bit off colour..." not bad fer a dead bloke etc...."...funny it is . probably.
