Mehta to be remembered within BHRC

One crew from the Armajaro MSA British Historic Rally Championship will end the season with a very special award presented to honour the memory of former East African Safari Rally winner Shekhar Mehta.

A special 'spirit of the championship' award will be presented at the end of the season and the winner will be the first recipient of a cast bronze Cheetah on a plinth. The magnificent award has been given to the BHRC by Yvonne Mehta in memory of her late husband.

During a long and illustrious career, Mehta scored many successes in his native Africa and around the world and will always be particularly associated with the Datsun 240Z, now a front-running car in the BHRC. Later, Mehta took on the job of Chairman of the FIA Rallies Commission, a role he held until his death in the spring of this year.

"We hope that the recipient will be as proud to win this trophy as we were to receive it," says Simon Marks of the Historic Rally Car Register, organisers of the BHRC. "It commemorates a great sportsman and a champion of the era of cars that we now hold dear."

The 'Shekhar Mehta Spirit of Rallying' award will be presented at the end of each season to the most appropriate crew from within the ranks of the BHRC.
