MY 260Z COUGHS!

Can anyone help  I have just bought my first 260z drives very nice whens its going but it coughs when reving and seems to be lack of power at higher revs.  Is it tunning I need?
 
Still with the original carbs. or have they been replaced? If so, what with? The original 260Z carbs are renowned for difficult running and coughing and spluttering. They are difficult to repair and expensive on parts.
