Well I finally got my Z de-Webered and out on the highway with her lovely new (well re-con) SU HS6’s, cute little rampipes and K+N filters. (Many thanks to PMAC for the deal on the manifold and linkage). A quick squirt of EasyStart and away she went. Now for the questions!!

At the moment I have blanked off the re-circulation valve in the manifold which normally goes to the crankcase breather. This breather already has a small K+N filter on from the Weber days. Is there any point in re-connecting this as per standard? As I understand it, the other part of the standard system connects the rocker breather to the air intake box.. As I don’t have the airbox, (and yet another small K+N on the rocker breather) it seems pointless connecting the other bit. Or is it??

Mixture…In my Haynes manual the first step in setting the mixture is to screw up the mixture nuts, then unscrew them between half and a one full turn as a starting point. In the Datsun manual, there is a little table which shows that at seal level and normal UK temps (f***ing cold) the nuts should be unscrewed about 3.5 turns. Anybody know roughly where their nuts are? (Especially when its cold..) I will be heading towards a rolling road ASAP, but in the meantime any advice appreciated. Is it best just to have a run, check the plugs and adjust according to colour? I do have a Colourtune and a Carbalancer from my original 240 days, which I will have a play with when I get the chance, but in the meantime any thoughts welcome.

Any ideas where I can get a length of threaded rod for the throttle link between the pedal bellcrank and the torsion shaft? I have a non-standard bellcrank which needs a slightly longer rod. And also the plastic ball ends – are they still available or if not where can I get me some? Are they a standard size, and what do you ask for? Are they measured across the ball?? Eeeh. So many questions.

And finally...I think I saw this on a thread recently but what the hell...what is the current thinking on best ignition timing setting (currently running points, premium unleaded with additive) static + dynamic values would be grand.

I have lots more but I’ll leave it at that for now!!
