Manifold Blowing!

Don't know if anyone has the sme problem but I can't get the 6 into 1 header performance exhaust to seal properly around number six exhaust port, I can hear it blowing under hard throttle and can see black gas stains around the gasket. I have tried to reseal it and changed the gasket a few times but it still comes back DOH.
Have any of you got any ideas or should I buy a GDS manifold and are these any better?
Thanks.

Check both faces for straightness - If #6 has been leaking for a while the head and/or header flange may need to be surfaced.

Are you using a header style gasket as supplied with most manifolds or a standard one with metal inserts? The latter doesn't work well with headers. The header gaskets are NOT reusable! I have had some customers suggest that using two header gaskets stacked can cure leaks like the one you descibe. A smear of high temperature silicone on assembly would also help, but I don't offer this as anything other than a bit of a bodge tip! We used to use it on the Chevys to seal leaky headers and to reuse gaskets in an emergency at the track.

Talking of bodge ups, the same thing happened on my 6 into 1. There was a very minor leak at the top of the flange on number 6. It was making a ticking noise under acceleration. I cured it by squidging some steel reinforced epoxy putty in the gap....purchased from Sainsbury's Homebase of all places. It can cope with extreme temperatures and goes so hard you could drill and tap it if you needed (I've even used it to repair small holes in exhausts). I admit it doesn't look very pretty, but I am not in the habit of driving round with my bonnet open. This fantastic peice of automotive home maintenance was carried out some four years ago and the car has probably covered over 15000 "hard" miles.  <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>

Thanks for all the advice I will probably take it off then get it machined flat then try and reseal it with a new comp gasket and some epoxy sealer.
