Hybrid Diffs

Hi all,

This is probably a stupid question but, is a R180 diff and R180 diff, no matter which Nissan (or Scooby) it came from?

What I'm thinking is the R32GTR Skyline came with a R200 LSD as standard, can I bosch the internals into a normal 260 R200? Or is that a no no? I guess the actual output of the diff will differ at least (different flanges etc).

Nice idea though eh? :)

Thanks

Don't know the answer to that but where R31 Skylines available there? They used a long nosed clutch type R200 LSD. Straight swap with an S30 Z R200.

R31, that's interesting, doesn't matter as I can import one :) Thanks Clifton.

Dave: Are you sure mate, I was pretty certain it was a R180.

So the hunt for a long nose clutch type R200 LSD begins. In the mean time the R180 will suffice :)

Well from the post it's a straight swap for an S30 R200. I thought the shafts (I'm no expert) changed when it when S130 or whatever a 280zx is?

Seems an interesting proposition, there is a company that sells parts direct from Japan, an R32 LSD is about £170 so I've asked if they can get said 'long nosed' and if so I'll do some more research.

Yes Russ i sure its a R160 LSD in the back of the Scooby having some new CV shafts made up at the moment the mark 2 version hopefully wont break.
The Scooby R160 LSD looks to me the same size as the Z R180 but is 25 pounds lighter than the R180 and 50 pound lighter than the R200 changed the nose wheel over for the Z one and fitter here in its place it ran great untill i killed the shaft at the pod start line !

Interesting, so this RXXX business, does that mean they mount in a common way? And why have Subaru borrowed a Nissan diff? Sorry if this has already been covered.

Not borrowed a diff off nissan but used the same castings so yes bolts up the same way fits perfect just change the nose wheel over to take the Z propshaft sort out some driveshafts and away you go. The same people who made the diff shell for Datsun also made the diffs for Scooby so they have used the shell and built there LSD inside BUT the internals shafts are differant so the Z drive shafts dont go in, the splines are out by 1 Scooby use 25 splines per shaft Z use 24 have sent you a PM with my number give me a ring Russ will talk you through it
