Gearbox bits

Afternoon all. I am in the process of collecting bits for a gearbox rebuild of my standard UK 240Z 5-speed box. Lots of bits are NLA, some are NLA when you ask your local Nissan dealer but still available in the US for some reason...

Anyway, I am doing Ok with my collecting (1-4th synchros and associated brake bands still available in US for example) but was wondering if anybody has any of the "truly NLA" NOS bits lying around, maybe from an abandoned/postponed rebuild that they might like to part with?

I am looking for 5th gear synchro (32361-20100), 5th brake bands x 2 (32364-20100) and the infamous mainshaft nut, 32354-A7400.

No doubt I could survive without these parts, but given the total costs already involved, I might as well replace as many parts as possible while it is in bits! :)

Cheers!

Is a swap to an S14 box not an option
Long term its a better, stronger and smoother box, almost indistinguishable (appearance wise) unless you know what your looking for and will transform the car

That is true Moriarty. And that's why I AM doing the S14 swap. But the car is about as standard as you can get (by choice, I've done the boy racer bit many years ago!) so one day it will go back to standard - probably when I come to sell it. At the very least I can give the next owner the option and sell the "loser" on.

Yes I know it's an expensive way to do things, but you can't take it with you, can you? :)

Ahhh so you are doing the conversion.....I read
rebuild of my standard UK 240Z 5-speed box
in your original post and assumed that it had not been considered, or had and been ruled out

So your rebuilding the 240z box to keep as a spare for when you sell the car and doing a s14 conversion to go in the car and use for now.

That is correct Johnny. Just need to find somebody who is experienced in rebuilding the original boxes. Not always as easy as it sounds. I recently had a VW camper box rebuilt by one of the most recommended rebuilders in the "VW community" Wasn't until it was mounted and connected up to the drive shafts that I noticed that the output shaft was taking a very oval instead of circular path! Cracked oil thrower housing, "never seen that before" and another 4 week delay on top of the 8 week initial wait (3 weeks estimate). Not amused!

As for the S14, MZR are doing the conversion for me early next year. Well that is the plan at the mo at least
